Will They Come Out?
By The Pakistani Spectator • Nov 12th, 2007 • Category: Uncategorized • (139 views) • 4 CommentsIntroducing private media channels like GEO, ARYONEWORLD, AAJ, and host others was a commendable step from the government. In rural Punjab, there is cliche which if translated into English, goes like this, “If your mother has married second time, its bad, if she has left the second husband, its too bad.”
Government first liberated the media, it proved bad for her. Now she has imposed ban on it, its too bad. In todays time of Internet, cell phones, wireless, and dish you cant really throw a dark blanket over the whole country. People of this country have now tasted the blood of cable channels and now they are really missing it. During the CJP issue, and during the Nawaz Sharif fiasco on 10th Sep, People remained content enough to remain at their homes, enjoying the
drama unfolding live on cable channels. But now they have got nothing to do at homes, and there is a chance that they would come on roads to inquire what the fuss is all about.
Will they really come out? One still wonders.

These three channel should not come on air again because these three have a fair share in bringing Pakistan at this critical stage.
Had they not shown live coverage of suicide bombings with wounded and dead bodies lying on the streets, there would not have many suicide attacks by then.
By this act, the potential bombers were encouraged and there mission was acomplished by ‘Terrorising People.’
I can support my argument with the fact that since the media ban there is just one small attack on a federal minister and check your memories what was happening before 3rd November.
These channels should acknowledge this fact if they called themselves independent channels.
Can I take you to nearby history, Benazir who is over-zealous about independent media has closed down six newspapers in just one order during her tenure; and everybody knows what Nawaz Sharif had done with chief Justice during his rule

I think Media should be fully independent but there should be some check and balance system on our media. I will never advocate any ban on our media but it doesnt mean that they start harming our own country.
Our media was like a wild horse which didnt know whom interests it is serving. I personally saw a naked dead body on Geo Tv and it was shocking. I mean no one is afraid to see dead bodies but if the media people had slight respect for the dead bodies, they would have never shown them being naked.
I mean come on, there is limit to everything. You know whats the problem of absolute power, that it makes the person mad. Thats what happened to our news channels.
They forgot that at the end of the day we are all working towards the betterment of Pakistan and not for its destruction.
I never saw CNN, SKY or BBC showing the wild side of their countries. The only reason they report sometimes on them is to show that they are un biased.
I dont believe there is any like perfectly Neutral media any where.
Al Jazeera, BBC, SKY, and FOX all are serving their audiences and they will never agree on one point just because they have different purposes to cater to.
I expected our media not to make a huge drama out of even small incidents and take the whole day showing Nawaz arrival back to Pakistan.
The way GEO showed him that day, made him a hero and made us forget that he was the same person who even lied about his asylum deal saying it was not 10 years but 5 years while previously he denied it in media.
Now the same Benazir, which signed a deal with present regime was given more rausing welcome by our media then what was given to Imam Khomeni. She is the same person who is suspected to be involved in the murder of her brother and she is the same leader, who is asking for NRO to quash her corruption cases worth $1.5 billion. I dont think i have to remind your their deeds as you people probably know it better then me.
Lets our hatred for the present regime not bias our opinion on all the matters. I know media blackout is deplorable act but i think media should also set certain guidelines for itself so that we all know the norms of reporting.
Here i will give you an example
http://www.pakistanuncut.com/
Here on this blog under the title “Protest by BB Supporters”i saw a picture of a female minister of PPP which is being dragged by female police in islamabad.
I didnt place this picture on my blog though i placed all the other pictures. Reason being! Go and see it yourself. I think the photographer shouldnt have taken this picture.
I understand if he wants to report the way police is treating the protestors but i think there are alot of other ways to show it rather then taking a picture like this!
I hope none of us wants our mothers or sisters or wives being photographed this way and then become a subject of blogs. Atleast i wont like it and hence i will not support it either.
No hard feelings as all i said is in good faith and its an opinion so it might be right or wrong.
You are judges here so the decision is yours!

im an american of paki origin and its painful 2 admit but i think pakistan which used to be bad went worse and now further going down the drain to hell—2 b honest, im really not proud of my paki heritage—where a woman cannot walk outside the home without being harrassed and in fact be gang raped and forced to walk naked back to her home or village—on one hand most pakis becum defensive and say that pakistan is the “qillah” (fort) of islaam and such sycophantic terms—but actions speak louder than words—we brag and bray to non pakis and non muslims that our religion and country is the most cultured and civilized yet how much a woman is honored and even more worse how an elitist criminal mafia is in power which manipulates the judicial system that prevents the culprits 2 b brought to justice is shocking and in fact a shame to most decent and civilized ppl—where suicide bombers r killing their fellow muslims without any reason—where corruption has reached its saturation point—where honesty and hard work is not rewarded—where a backward fedual system is still strongly in place even after six decades of independence—i did live in pakistan for eight yrs b4 coming back to the states and it was pretty bad then and now i can imagine how much the situation has terribly exacerbated—in my view, the generals of the army r the biggest cancer and the wadayray and jageerdar r actually part of that cancerous system which has sucked the blood of the average oppressed pakistani citizen who can be killed, made to disappear etc—Now the average pakistani citizen realizes how greedy the army and intelligence agencies have becum—instead of doing what they r supposed to do, their greed has increased and they want to completely control the country and make it into a military state like Myanmar—Next door India, while also facing a dearth of problems, at least is undergoing an economic renaissance and that is due to succssfully keeping the army, agencies, govt.of the day in check by the parliament and judicial system which is much freer that in pakistan. Yet in pakistan, criticize the army, agencies or govt. of the day , and you can be picked up, tortured and killed–Then the military govt. mafia has the balls to tell overseas foreign and paki business communities to invest in pakistan—how can one when there is no political and economic stability and the country itself is going through flight capital—just the same old sad story.
