The commotion and panic is almost touchable in the ranks of the Zardari regime which has strangled itself by its own hands, and now trying to get oxygen. In order to survive, President Zardari has extended hands to even those people whom he didn’t want to even see.

The leader of the lawyers’ movement, Chaudhry Aitaza Ahsan, whose membership of central executive committee of the PPP was suspended by the president himself was the first man who help managing the first defeat of the Zardari, when Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was reinstated as the chief justice of Pakistan.

Now as the Zardari regime has been left in the cold by its own allies like MQM and JUI-F, he is looking towards the disgruntled members of his party, like Aitzaz Ahsan. He has met with Aitzaz and has offered him lucrative posts in the present setup. Mr Ahsan has reportedly been offered the post of attorney general or Punjab governor.

Zardari can do anything to save his rule. But why would Aitzaz Ahsan blot his newly achieved dignity and fame? He was lurking in the dark alleys, and wasn’t a much celebrated figure as he handed over the lists of Sikhs to India when he was interior minister during first regime Benazir Bhutto, but then became hero courtesy to the Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s No to Musharraf.

Zardari will never let go of his wealth, deals and other blunders. He will also never leave his coterie of friends, as they know a lot and share a lot. Will Aitzaz Ahsan risk his career, dignity, reputation just for a designation?
