Why Whore is Called Taxi in Pakistan?
By Amna Gilani • May 6th, 2009 • Category: Misc • 4 CommentsWell you never stop getting education in any matters throughout your life. One such pretty confusing, embarrassing and thought provoking bit of education I got yesterday, when two ladies faught like mad cats with each other in a “Mailad” function. First they revealed each other’s family secrets, then described why their daughters are not getting married and they why each lady considered other a pure tart. When that was not enough they attacked each other with fists, and as other participants separated them, one declared other a “Tawaiaf”, and other lady promptly retaliated with “Taxi.”
I asked from my Khala as what is meant by Taxi in this case, and as the word Tawaiaf is pretty much strong and the lady had retaliated with Taxi only if this word has stronger and more sinister meaning. Khala was already furious as those ladies damaged such a noble occassion, and upon my question she. red-cheeked, told me to shut up.
But, of course, shut up is what I don’t believe in and you the readers and commentors know that very well. I just got to know after some inquiry that what Taxi actually means and that is pretty much nasty yet very much a reality which cannot be denied or brushed away.
But why the word Taxi? Why not simply car, bus, scooter or even Ching Chee?
Ok, that’s not a joke. What is the purpose of the actual Taxi, the vehicle. It roams the city day and night. It never refuses anyone to hop on and hop off. It takes money for that. It is driven by someone else. It could be hired for longer period of time and it could be just used and then left. Taxi doesn’t have it’s own will. It is used roughly and it is run on the makeshift basis. Lastly but not leastly, it could be converted into a personal car.
The Whore and Taxi do have some striking similarities.
But how many are there who are ready to convert Taxi into a Personal car?

Hi Amna,
A great post and i think this term is used in India also, though i am not sure.Rehab of these ladies is just not possible with money always chasing them whichever country or civilisation, they belong to
Hi Amna…nice post as usuall..
I don’t think many would want to convert a taxi into a personal car…of course exceptions are always there…but the stigma attached to the profession is just too great.
Ofcourse then there are the ones who lay lay at home all day shooting drugs and “encouraging” their womenfolk to go our whoring to feed the family and their drug habit…
Taxi was a degratrory term hurled at girls presumed to have slutty attributes when I was doing my O level. That was sometime back and am surprised that the exclusively schoolboy term has found currency with Mailad going aunties. Am also surprised at the naivete of the author on her ignorance of the Taxi term given her inclination to investigate the seamy under belly of what constitues Pakistani society.
