Who are Selling ‘Kidneys’
By Farid Masood • Jan 14th, 2008 • Category: Politics • No ResponsesAtta (flour) is the key requirement for human beings. Atta being the cheapest food item and being main sources energy for the human body in the sub-continent especially. Due to unstable economic policies prevailing in the country and due to overall economic laps being observed internationally general public in Pakistan is bound to purchase edible oil @ Rs 110 per liter, Atta @ Rs 20 ~ 35 per kilogram, pulses @ Rs 40~80 per kilogram, sugar @ Rs 26~34 per kilogram, milk @ Rs 30~48 per litre and other daily use items so on.
Minimum wage rate set by the government of Pakistan are arrount Rs 5,600 per month. Lets look at the expenses of a person earning such having 5~6 family members:
1. House Rent Rs 2,000 (a house having only 02 rooms and a bath)
2. Electric Bill Rs 600
3. Gas Bill Rs 1,000 (for one LPG cylinder having 11 Kg Gas)
4. Kitchen Items Rs 500 (3 Litre oil/ghee, salt, chillies, sugar etc)
Total Rs 4,100
Salary Rs 5,600 fixed expenses amounting to Rs 4,300 (approx) the remaining amount is Rs 1,500.
Will such a person eat, give education to his/her children, purchase medicines, purchase clothes, pay water bill, purchase fruit etc etc.
So this is the case of an employed person, and think for a while who is un-employed, how will he or she may survive. Will they do prostitution, sell body parts in cheap rates, become thieves, killers, suicide bombers, dacoits, start begging or become drugs addicted.
So selling of body part has been on the rise due to such economic conditions, and traders are already available in the market for such products especially kidneys.
If some one as undergone a kidney removal or transplant surgery, he knows after surgery implications. But we can easily estimate the infections due to un-hygienic conditions in clinics and small hospitals. And the poor unaware of these things selling their precious body part for a few thousand rupees to fill the stomach of his and his family giving a chance to the middle men to sell these kidneys earning higher profits.
