What PML(N) is doing Besides suffering Scandals

By Sher Ali • Jul 14th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 6 Comments

Nawaz Sharif is said to be the most popular leader right now in the country. His brother and the chief minister of the biggest province of Pakistan is busy in servicing the people of Punjab, but that is not enough, as it is proving glass of water in a vast desert.

Nawaz Sharif has appointed Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as an opposition leader in the National Assembly, but he is nowadays invisible from the national scene. Nisar Ali Khan has this habit of disappearing from his own constituency of Wah / Taxila after taking votes, but now he is reapplying that to his responsibilities as opposition leader. Likewise, other stalwarts of PML(N) like Khawaja Asif, Saad Rafique, Ahsan Iqbal, Zafar Iqbal Jhagra, and host of others are not even to be found in the T.V talk shows.

When the nation is suffering from every kind of crisis, there is no one out there to give voice to the woes of the people. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry seems to be playing “Opposition” right now. So why shouldn’t we be electing Iftikhar Chaudhry in the next elections?

  1. PML is actually passing its tests in the name of accountability.Do one thinks that it is all green in other provinces and nothing going wrong is nurturing in our other areas.Baluchistan and Karachi are to be on the point of bursting out with violence and emotional disturbances in different groups/All are result of poor management of ruling groups and as Punjab govt is making timely or foxy decisions to solve the problems on timely decisions .People are holding law and arms in their hands in other parts of country just for personal security as state is being completely failed of giving their rights to live like normal human beings. So nothing to criticize on the right actions of PML as they have gathered their lost courage to punish their own people .Law and order and living conditions of other provinces should need to be improved to curtail coming bloodshed coming ahead in near future.

But I guess Mr. Ali rightly raised question on the role of PML (N) on fedral level not provincial level. I guess PML (N) has to define its role clearly on every issue. They have to come up with stances on each issue instead of being silent observers. If they are opposition then the act sincerely in that capacity. As opposition is first check on govt on the behalf of people

  3. Nawaz Sharif and coterie is busy making plans for mid term elections. Under an understanding with USA, they are keeping quite on national issues and waiting for this government to die its own death.
Yes indeed one thing they are doing regularly and religiouly is Musharraf bashing.
Burning in the fire of revenge, as a personal vendetta, NS is employing whatever sources he could to ensure that Pervez Musharraf is blamed for every ill and none of his achievements is highlighted in the media. Chowdhary Nisar is busy scrutinizing each and every deal of last government and linking all petty discrepancies to Pervez Musharraf. Rauf Clasra and Ansar Abbassi are busy in targetted investigative reporting. Hamid Mir, Kashif Abbasi, Nusrat Javed, and other are handsomely compensated to play their roles in achieving the desired goals of Nawaz Sharif.
Other members of coterie come on and off in the media and make intellectually vacuous statements against Pervez Musharraf.
Yes very rightyl said, Chowdhary Iftekhar should be elected in the next election as he is totally politicized and working for Nawaz Sharif.

  4. Agree with Nasir M. Aijaz. Good observation. Of course, Nawaz Sharif got the not so vague message - behave now & get rewarded. As far as this governments dying its own death is concerned, I suppose one can’t have an issue with “dying one’s own death”, however, what we are witnessing seems a ‘death wish’ on their part and an early one at that. But they are & will survive as the alternative is just as bad if not worse.

Rest of the ‘actors’ are playing their part and like you have rightly pointed out that they
are “handsomely compensated” for the (dis) service they are doing to the nation at large. And let’s see how much political maurity we have attained in this sojourn of relatively free democracy and let’s see who all from us remembers and gives credit where it’s due for making it possible here. I am hoping that the nation profits from the display of quality of people the “members of coterie” (the ‘intellectuals’ at Nawaz’s disposals - the ones who are not busy in scandals of one kind or other!) on media through what you termed as their “intellectually vacuous statments”. At least, the “merchandise” is out there for our evaluation and we must not pick the rotten eggs & tomatoes from this shelf.

Regarding ‘his’ role in politics now and later, I am tending to say just this - based on ‘his’ present role ‘he’ deserves to be impeached ( personal likings, dislings, tastes, standards have no role to play - law is supposed to be above personalities and must be interpreted as it is), for ‘his’ future role in politics he has to be out of govt. service for two years to participate ‘legitimately’. So if immediately fired now, will be ‘good to go’ for the next elections - Nawaz & his useless “coterie” & the ‘churnalists’ must erase all hopes for a mid-term elections. There won’t be none!

  5. “Nawaz Sharif is said to be the most popular leader right now in the country”
No he isn’t. Is he the most populat leader in Balochistan? Or NWFP? Or Sindh? He is only most popular in Punjab and that is because of ethnic reasons more than anything. But of course, popular in Punjab means popular in Pakistan….thanks to the large size of Punjab, fair isn’t it?

PML-N/PPP is a living proof that some people never learn from their mistakes

Nowadays it is not problem what are the past of rulers as all have made kangroo jumping with the help of their foreign masters and trying to show their patriotism in their ways.
Look at the perceptive views of each party.
PPP specially zardari group is completely ignoring the public interests and chopping them with brutal acts of typical establishment. This way they are earning hate sentiments of people.Nawaz is just cashing people’s sentiment as per losses of ruling groups he is next to take the throne and he is not missing any chance of showing his repute in much mannerly way of politics. He also knows well that people of Punjab will not give him any space to his wrong doings.
Look at the conditions of Karachi and sindh except for development projects under mustafa kamal. there are serious law and order issues that are continuous on rise for last years but people are not accepting any thing from mqm govt as all believe that mqm is contributing in all as per their requirement.
So nawaz is being forced by people and media to move in a track as per people wishes .There is no ethnic colors in Punjab as all are enjoying their jobs as per their capabilities and nobody is receiving dead bodies from Punjab in the name of urdu speaking, balochi or pathan.Karachi is rated on top for last one year of sending dead bodies as victims of target killings and mostly are on ethnic basis.
Now you have to see in your area what is going on as nawaz what ever drama he is creating , is moving in right directions .
