We Should Sometimes Thank America
By Tazeen • Mar 8th, 2010 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 23 CommentsLike it or not, many Pakistanis and their numbers are rising rapidly believe that the drone attacks by the Americans in the FATA region are justified and they support these attacks. We all know that our military and the government are also on board in that regard and they know the blow which these drone struck to the terrorists, but due to the political compulsions, they dare not to speak the truth.
Americans are arrogant, and they dont’ really empathize with the Pakistanis and they have made blunders and they have their fair share of blame to carry when it comes to dealing with Pakistan, but the honest and truthful thing is that they have also done much. Not only they have provided much aid both in cash and in form of other resources, they have also supported Pakistan at numerous occassions and have saved it from collapsing.
It’s right of every country to protect its own interest and Americans are just doing that. We are weak so they dominate us. We are dependent upon their aid, donations and loans and we have also to bow in front of them for many thing. If you don’t like kowtowing in front of Uncle Sam, then stop accepting loans, let go of this way of life and start sacrificing. We need to stop being hypocrite and thank America for their support. They may not be our friend, but they are not a foe either. They are just pursuing their interests and that is their right.
It was Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan who first asked for help from America and America responded. Since then our every ruler has been accepting aid and donations and alms from the Americans and that is considered as achievement by the government. Just take the recent Kerry-Lugar Bill example, that is the part of the list which PPP government boasts of their highlights. Our stock exchange and the whole economy and the whole national life depends upon Americans. We need catharsis of ourselves before we smugly get bitter towards Americans.

Finally, a candid admission by a Pakistani about American help!
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been browsing through Pakistani blogs and so-called ‘news’ sites, which all blame the current situation in Pak on ‘RAW-CIA-Mossad’.
The fact is RAW is completely under the control of the prime minister of India (Unlike ISI and Pak military), and does not carry sabotage activities - its primary responsibility is intelligence collection.
Most of the bloggers and ‘news reporters’ also got their own history wrong - For example, they claim that Pakistan won the 1965 war, that Pakistan was created much before India, that India copies its culture and traditions from Pakistan etc…
I think the problem is inherent in the books that Pakistani kids are studying in school - all India centric and filled with hatred. Pakistan should learn to live on its own and not base its existence on hating India.
Both countries should also work together to exterminate militant Islam - a Pakistani creation…
In addition to the above points, I’d like to point out that during the 1971 war, America had sent their nuclear submarine to help Pakistan!

I totally agree with everything you say. I think eventhough that there is an anti America hysteria here in Pakistan we still shamelessly accept thier IMDAD.
There was a big drama about Kerry Lugar bill in Pakistan but eventually as predicted they still accepted the IMDAD. I think whoever says we must thank America sometimes is lying. Since the creation of our nation in 1947 we have had a tarnished history of accepting American favours in financial aid all the time. Its safe to say without America, Pakistan would not have survived. So we cant help but thank America all the time even if we didnt want to for parting thier tax payers money for us.
I think we now so much used to begging that even if we dont need it we still cant give it up. Its in our blood now.

All your claims are correct and i agree with you
however there i do not agree that RAW is completely under the control of the Prime Minister
yes, its not as loose as the ISI, but NO intelligence agency is completely in control of the bureaucracy.
There are shreds of evidence to prove involvement of RAW and ISI in each others territories.
so neither party is innocent.

the pakistan public doesnt accept their IMDAD … does MR z even ask us or any other president ever ask us b4 taking their AIDS? … no they dont! .. cause they always keep the aid for themselves and say we took it for the public ….
india/us/israel is now a group but well u c even piggy countries like india act like lions when they have the backing of Israel …. but well dont worry we still have nukes if we really want to solve our probs with india =D
America is at the forefront of nations who have helped Pakistan in these tough times. In a recent seminar held by Individualland (www.individualland.com), it was discussed that Pakistan is the 6th largest recipient of aid amounting to a total of US $ 2.2 billion. The GoP allocates 2.5% to health and education while the requirement is a lot more. That gap can only be filled by the development aid we get.
@rajiv. Finally a candid blod. We should have more of these so that the real picture comes on the surface. We criticize them so much but what every1 needs to know is that we are the 6th largest recipient of Official Development Assistance (ODA) receiving US $ 2.2 billion. U.S is decidedly the largest donor to Pakistan! And in reality if these amounts were utlised in the right places our country would have been WAYYY different so yes sumtimes we need to thank America.

Use your head. I agree we have nukes but India also got nukes. So how are we going to solve our problems keeping the nukes on the table. Nukes or any kind of aggression cannot be a solution to any problem.

oh yes america ALWAYS helps us just like when it put sanctions on us after they didnt need us when the soviets lost in afghanistan… the US only works for its own goals and purposes and we r nothing to them but mere dogs , when they need us they give us money and when they dont , then they put sanctions on us …. thats what happened to that fool saddam when they had utilised him they threw him out of their gay club … read history and learn from the past ….

So are you saying fire our nukes and get all our problems solved. I think India has a second strike capability which means they will nuke us back. Both get destroyed and problems solved. Vow this sounds so much like a losers theory who has nothing to lose so destroy everything. So you want us to get sold out to you who like a kid is ranting to push the nuke button.
Whats more we cement our position as a war mongeror in the world by blinking first on the nuke button. In your own admission Pakistan made nukes for balance of powers and not to provocate nations to use them at a drop a hat. Its this irresponsible behaviour that made the world look at us with suspision.

We should take everything we can get from America. Convert our MAD Rassas into regular schools, Train all Mullahs to build roads and do farming, and teach family planning to our men.
US Aid can help us in so many ways
. We have too many little Pakis coming on board. Now a Saudi can have 40 children from six wives but then he is like any monkey in the wild and has oil. But we cannot afford to have more than one child per family.
Like America & Canada, India and Pakistan are part of the same body of land mass that belong togeter as friends and neighbors.
@Pisces - You’re exactly the kind of hate filled fundamental that we’re talking of exterminating!! If there is a nuke war bet’n India & Pakistan, it wont be a question of who won, it will be a question of who is a bigger loser! Honestly, both countries have a lot to lose.

My bigger concern is not about nuclear war - am sure there still are sane people on either sides of the border to ensure we never pull that trigger. I’m more than worried about people like pisces offending normal, amicable people on either sides of the border and pushing us towards war!
We got people like pisces even on our side - Zakir Naik, for one, says he supports Osama Bin laden and that killing americans is right, in the true spirit of jihad!
I just hope sense prevails and Pakistan reverts back into being a secular democracy, out of the clutches of its army and mullahs….
Finally, global trade and getting aid is not begging, meatheads (like pisces). If you cannot live in a globalized world, you do not deserve to live!!

Somalia has Sharia law and look what is happening there. The reason Saudi Arabia has not fallen is because America has decided to keep the Royal Sharia Crook Household in power. American wants a study supply of oil and does not want to disrupt it .

I agree! We should show some gratitude to those who assist as in over development programs, as Pakistan merely invests in much needed sector of health and education, all major initiatives such as polio programs, immunization and teacher trainings are done by funded money.
However these development programs are often hampered due to lack of transparency, it important to ensure accountability so that donors are encouraged to invest more in our social reforms.

A very logical post but there are some wrong assumptions.Quaid e Azam took help of USA and joined SEATO/CENTO because he feared the sheer size of India. Any leader with commonsense will do it.But America also gained tremendously from this relationship.
1.Pakistani division helped save the pro american regime of King Hussein a puppet of theirs in Jordan by killing nearly 10,000 palestenians(black september).
2. It gained in breaking up of Soviet Union by using Pakistan army in Afghanistan by creating Alqueda(Osama was creation of CIA) and ISI created Taliban and got Afghanistan to rule.
3.In Lebanon the only loss of Isreali fighter aircraft happenned to PAF pilots who shot down an Israeli fighter.
4.You also created the Khalistan movement with help from CIA and killed our strong leader Indira Gandhi.
5.You could creat your own nuclear detterence due to this connection as USA looked elesewhere.
6.Pakistan also gained in their obsession with India in controlling Kashmirterrorism movement of JKLF,SalahuddinMaulvi Farooq etc. etc.
But India also gained in this by aligning with Russia and in exploiting the mistakes of Pakistani army in east Pakistan who raped the civil population and thereby help in creation of Bangladesh. We are gaining now as the maulvies and Mullahs whom you created are now targetting your Army instead of infidels in Afghanistan.
