Waziristan IDP Problems and Hardships

By Maria Sultan • Oct 20th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 6 Comments

As the Pakistani security forces advance from three sides into the South Waziristan Agency to strike at the core of the terrorism, the population of the agency leaves their homes and everything and getting displaced to the Dera Ismail Khan, the closest and most accessible region still largely unaffected by the fighting. , and other regions of the country.

On foot, these Internally Displaced People of South Waziristan have reached to D.I. Khan after traveling for hundreds of miles and their plight is very dismal. Rudimentary camps have been established in D.I Khan area, but these camps don’t have enough food, medicine and shelter and the drinking water. Still the special support group officials are not in the areas and a human tragedy is in making.

Why is it that the world comes late to the help of Pakistan which has limited resources to help out these who have left their homes so that the terrorism can be defeated? Why we have to solicit help from the international community after pleading? International community especially the US and NATO are quick to ask Pakistan to do more, but they become dumb and idiots when it comes to actually doing something for the people who are sacrificing most.

  1. Same stories of misiries , scenes of desperation, and sites of horror have become part of our lives.Nobody is gathering the evidences and conclusions that what we are gaining in this war. There is no achievement in this mess and real gainers are enjoying the situation by sitting behind the curtains.

  2. I think, that is again the failure of our diplomacy to plead the Pakistan case. Before initiating the things, it was to be made out clear that what direct and indirect expense we anticipate, that had to be backed by quatrely reports with statistical figures of expenses, infrastructure loss and not to say of human suffering.

The stake holders should have had been defined (the direct and indirect beneficiaries) and cost would have been divided according to the estimated benefit each party achieve at the end.

But all that need big vision backed by hard work to get the facts on sheets. And then the strong media team to raise it on the global forums. But who cares. Here most of the people like hidden deals instead of transparent cases.

  4. No doubt Pakistan suffered a lot due to terrorism and rendered more sacrifices than any other country. War on terror has become Pakistan’s own war and it is fighting it with full determination. As world recognizes Pakistan’s efforts in war on terror and pledges support to Pakistanis, but we have seen that it comes late to help Pakistan. International community and donors must come forward to help out people of Pakistan. As now Pakistani security forces advance into the South Waziristan agency to strike at the core of terrorism, there are many people likely to leave that area like it happened in Swat operation. Government handled that issue with so much courage despite having limit resources. Government enjoys full support of people against terrorism. World must come forward and help out Pakistani people.
