Video of Pakistani Student Insulting American Ambassador Anne Patterson

In a rare show of political maturity, Samad Khurram, a student of a private school in Islamabad refused to accept his an award of academic excellence from the American Ambassador Anne W. Patterson. The academic excellence award was samkadkhufata being given to him for his admission to Harvard, a world distinction in thinking skills, a regional distinction in chemistry and 7 A grades in A level. The student said that he did so because of the United States attacks on the tribal regions of Pakistan in which innocent children and the people are dying, and the US continuous support for the dictator Pervez Musharraf.

The face of Anne W. Patterson turned red and for 5 long seconds she stood there motionless with shame and anger. When the student was called to receive the certificate on the stage from the US ambassador, he just passed her and went to dice and cited the reason. As he passed the American ambassador, the principal also became flabbergasted, she tried to take hold of the student by the sleeve, but he moved on, while the American diplomat watched in horror and embarrassment.

Then American ambassador in his speech tried to brush the incident away by adopting a pedantic tone and tried to make the matter light. The principle never recovered from the shock, as she knew what’s waiting for her in the store after the function. Not only the chance of hefty donation from the Americans went down the drain, but also it will surely cost her the job.

That’s is the collateral damage of the war on terror.

  1. “zillat ki zindagi say izzat ki moat behtur hai “.merit and qualification has its own expression of valor, courage, response, move, and reaction to retalliate as ego .what he has done can not even be perceived by people like me .applause and appraise.

  2. If this courage was available with Musharraf in 2001 the things would have been alot better in Pakistan.

  3. O Golly, Just look at the poor Patterson :) :) :)

  4. Just pray now that they don’t send the proud poor chap to Gitmo instead of Harvard.

  5. No. They will not send him to Gitmo. Rather they will his scholarship and will offer him good job in USA after he will finish his education. I am dead sure because they never takes revenge in such manner. There is a rule of law and Justice there. This is a difference between third world countries like Pakistan and USA/Europe.

  6. He has raised the head of a fragile nation and bow down the heads of dwarfs leaders in front of US master. This one no is a chain reaction of a NO from ch iftkhar. It is useless to accept any act of shame from our ruling group who for last 10 years are feeling no ashmed of meeting Boucher or negro ponting like characters on national issues,All ordinary officers of US can approach to presidnt PM or COAS houses all the time even our ex coas having powers of chief executive had given up his national and militory strength just on one call from the US office.I hope his one no would act as start of acid rain on US policies in our homeland.

  7. MashahAllah.. finally.. young breed would bring some change to on going things..

  8. Great News:(y)
After reading this news i really proud to Samad Khurram, It Really raise the head to overseas pakistani’s like us.

  9. Nice job by him …

What is the reason that all the Pakistani people are in such darkness ??

I think everyone either our elder or our younger all are aware of the fact that this Musharaf and his dictator policies have ruined the Country.

MAY ALLAH BLESS OUR COUNTRY. AND RUIN THEM ALL WHO HAVE THOUGHT OF DISTURBING OUR COUNTRY.

  10. Great Job Samad!!!!!!!!!! Pakistan need people like you. I salute you man!!!!!!!

  11. It is absolutely correct, “zillat ki zindagi say izzat ki moat behtur hai “. Yes, one must agree that “merit” + “qualification” + all those fancy things, we are given to understand, sppose to give “courage” and power to express and, and, and, but just wait. Lets find out first what is at play here.

    Samad Khurram who?

Is it the same person who has been contributing some posts here on TPS?

  12. Listen friends, I did some checking about this guy Samad Khurram. Yes, he is the one who has been posting now and then on this blog, too. And now, before we all give him this “sha_baash” for this “heroic” deed namely “Insulting American Ambassador Anne Patterson” while she was a guest by invitation at Samad Khurram’s previous ‘Alma mater’ by the name The Roots School System. In my view, Samad Khurram has misbehaved with a guest. Who is the Ambassador of her country where Samad Khurram is studying at the cost of his host country (HARVARD UNIVERSITY has been financing his education as well as boarding and living cost). Instead of taking our ‘hats off’ in his ‘honour’ we should tell him that we are less than pleased, because:

    - BY insulting an invited guest he has insulted and caused extreme embarrassment to his school.

    - BY insulting an Ambassador of a country he has caused embarrassment to Pakistan and Pakistani people; it is a very poor display of our hospitality and sense of responsibility.

    - BY his misbehaviour he has insulted the people of his host country (Ambassador being their representative here) as well. From his first hand experience he knows he is a direct beneficiary and recepient of American larges (which comes straight from American tax payers pockets). One does not insult his benefactors.

    - Samad Khurram’s behaviour has caused embarrassment to the other more than 5000 Pakistani students studying and benefitting from American Educational system.

    - Samad Khurram has been student of an elite school, namely, The Roots School System, which is beyond the reach of the 99.5 % children of our nation. He is not our representative, he is a direct beneficiary of an elitist system and child of a rich family (a FEUDAL ? ) which is rich by expoiling the resources of the poors in Pakistan. If it is so, then Samad Khurram should break and denounce and disown his family, since he wants to portray himself as a champion of JUSTICE.

    - Samad Khurram must turn down and pay back all the financial and non-financial benefits he has been recepient of from the American system or he must stop playing this fake games with us the poor and simple Pakistanis.

    - Samad Khurram should seek lime light, it is his right, to promote his person and his pesonal agenda, but for the sake of God not at the cost of Pakistan and Pakistani people.

  13. By the way, at The Roots School System it costs per child about :

    - Roots School System’s monthly fee is minimum of PKR. 9000. The admission fee currently is PKR. 40,000.

    - The examination fee for A-levels (cambridge system) are PKR. 6000 per subject.

And by the way again: About 55 million Pakistanis live below the poverty line with no access to even clean drinking water or health facilities of any sorts.

  14. HATS OFF FOR HIM ..

  15. Aftab has a point to be owned.

There is of course an element of rage, and ego.

Ego should always be perceived in the light of eventual endings and outcome at larger interest.

If such endings are the need of time without compromising the beneficiary and population at large all is well but if it is sacrificing the dignity of some one and interest of population at large, it should be avoided.

If we took the incident in broader perspective, it’s an alarming sign; as such incidences are the expected outcome of such anarchical continuous misconception being in conductivity within the community and measures to be initiated to groom and polish the young generation in the better interest of the country and our hospitality as Muslim, who by virtue of our Islamic teaching should offer respect if some one is on our platform.

In my opinion we should be humble and courteous enough to own Anne Patterson and be apologetic to her for such undue embarrassment; after all she was our guest and lady of the eve who visited the institute on request .

  16. Costing Principal the job and lack of hefty donations from Americans to that school is a small price to play in relation to the bigger picture. If we keep on succumbing like beggars, then this nation will have no hope. If donations and jobs are so important, then look for alternatives, should not leave all your eggs in one basket.

  17. Doctor Sahib, point is not ego. Here we have a kid who is studying there at their cost (HARVARD UNIVERSITY : AVRAGE COST US DOLLAR 50,000 / Year) and the chrages being recorded as to us the Pakistani nation. I am sure that this school in Pakistan is also receiving the “goodies” in the name of educating us the Pakistanis. Then must we behave the way we do; this Samad Khurram becomes insignificant for me (he is an stupid asshole as far as I am concerned); here it reflects very very poorly on us as people. I personally hate to think what an ordinary American would think and perhaps justifiably should, about the Pakistani people. Is that how we show our gratitude?

Remember, 2005 we had this misfortune of being hit by earthquake in our Northern Areas; you know who helped us most in our difficulties with money as well as useful trained people , yes, the American people in addition to the EU; and as soon as things were little under control; who’s target of our hatred, again yes, the Americans and the Europeans. Is that how a people supposed to say thanks for helping us; what are we? Are we a bunch of selfcentered, selfish and ungrateful people with no basic decency of acknowledging and accepting the kindness and sincerity of other people? Do we have this false sense of importance or do we think that anyone owes us any help. I really, really feel pained as a Pakistani to see the mistake this Samad Khurram made and the applause he receives in place of being desciplined.

Do you know this is called arrogance and ungratefulness. He and his kind being so privileged and advantaged that compare to him, most, by far the largest number of our children do not have even access to very basics, the very very basics like clean water to drink. I am interested to know who and how he was financed through that school The Root School System. By the way this school only groomed his sense of superiority over his fellow citizens, instead of inculcating some humility in his spoiled brat’s little mind. It alone cost so much per month that 200 of our poor children don’t get to eat that much in a whole year. Shame on Samad Khurram and his kind these parasites the offsprings of the ruling elites, the feudals and the robber barons of Pakistan.

  18. This is called ‘Freedom of Speech’. He did what he thought better, and we must accept that it needs courage, which I believe many of us don’t have. In my opinion this was a civilized gesture to prostest. For God’s sake, now a Pakistani can’t even protest?

He didn’t say anything wrong, infact what he said is the voice of Most of Pakistanis. Look for the replies yourself and decide what majority wants. What else you guys want him? Go and blast away others or just say it in civilized manner?

  19. Nasir Bhai, in this “unipolar world” would you not rather be friends with the only power there is? Must we squander the relationship that we have with them? I am very conservative; I think that it is in our national interest to be friends; by the way which alternative are we talking about.

  20. Nasir Sahib, he did not refuse what the Americans are giving him. He is a proud recepient of their larges. This is his ‘Alma mater’ which was honouring him along with many more of his fellow students and allumni. He has let them down and by attempting to insult the Ambassador he insulted us the host nation.
