UN Probe for Benazir’s Slaying

By The Pakistani Spectator • Jan 5th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 7 Comments

The ghastly assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto really caught the world off-guard. As is the case with other assassinations of high profilers worldwide, there is lots of mystery which surrounds this one too.

In the Liaquat Bagh, the way Benazir Bhutto was audaciously murdered by a simultaneous gun-and-bomb attack, then the murder place was washed away promptly upon the orders of an S.P; it fanned many suspicious among the populace. According to Washington Post, Pakistani authorities pressurized the doctors who were with Benazir in the last moments to keep their mouths shut over the nature of wounds and other information pertaining to it. Later on, all the record in this regard was skimmed-off from the General Hospital, where Benazir died. It is also a common knowledge now that when the Benazir was attacked, there was no Police around, and during the public meeting there was no proper security.

Government in its hassle to solve the murder also complicated the matters. They conflicting statements by the government spokesman Brig. Cheema aggravated the matters more. Nobody believed the telephone talk of Baitullah Mehsud and his alleged accomplice, and the story about Benazir’s death due to the lever of sunroof is ridiculous if anything. Toyota Company has ruled out such thing.

The only solution to all this is to really invite the United Nation’s team to Pakistan. People’s Party is also demanding it, and majority of people are backing their demand, and it’s also justifiable. President Musharraf has also said that doesn’t belong to a feudal cabal, and he is not a murdered and neither any agency is involved in it. It would be prudent for him to call up the UN team, and then nobody will be any wiser over the finding of this team.

Benazir’s slaying has really damaged the country domestically and internationally. Economic losses are also huge, and infrastructure in interior Sindh is in shambles. Morale of people is all time low, and clouds of uncertainty and apprehensions are hanging low. Scourge of terrorism is laughing shamelessly while the nation is suffering.

  3. Kya baat hai bhai, kya bat hai. MashAllah. But dont compromise on quality please.

  4. There is nothing left for any agency to decipher anything from the crime scene or from the eye-witnesses. According to Pakistani law, a foreign agency can not interview eye-witnesses of a crime. This is really ridiculous but true and the current government is taking shelter underneath this law.

Scotland yard is currently on the ground in Rawalpindi, let’s see what they say afte they are done…
