The Dead Line March 9th
By Farid Masood • Feb 20th, 2008 • Category: Pakistan Vote'08, Politics • No ResponsesThe Lawyer had announced one day before elections that Mach 9th is the dead line for the new government to re-instate judiciary. This date last year was the day when Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary (who is currently under house arrest for many months) was called to Presidency camp office, Rawalpindi, and asked to resign.
This courageous person said ‘NO’ to these orders in presence of then Prime Minister (Shaukat Aziz), Director General (Inter Services Intelligence), Director General (Intelligence Beauru), Director General (Military Intelligence).
This year, the date (March 9th), given by the lawyers movement to the un-born government is a too-tight schedule. There are other fronts on where the skills of new government will be tested deeply. This call is another test as on the one side there is the sitting President, General Pervaiz Musharaf (who is the writer of this story and currently residing here) and on the other hand the thousands of lawyers with the backing of masses. Mr Aitezaz Ahsan is another foe declared by the President. Lets pray for the best.
