Taliban’s Internal Clashes : Origin of Baitullah Mehsud
By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • Jul 4th, 2009 • Category: Politics • No ResponsesRight now Pakistani establishment is hard at work in propping up Qari Zainuddin Mehsud against the chief terrorist of Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) Baitullah Mehsud. Qari Zainuddin is busily trying to gather support against Baitullah, and establishment is helping him in this regard.
It all started when a militant Abdullah Mehsud returned from Gitmo in 2005 and restarted his militant activities. He was involved in killing Chinese engineers and so he was eliminated by Baitullah Mehsud in Zoob city of Balochistan with the help of establishment. Baitullah Mehsud then got immense power and that got to his head, and he started acting against the masters. He then made a pact with establishment twice and turned back on his word. A close aide of Abdullah Mehsud, Masoordur Rehman Mehsud blamed Baitullah for assassinating Abdullah Mehsud. Baitullah also eliminated Masood ur Rehman Mehsud. This Qari Zianuddin Mehsud is the son of that Masood ur Rehman, and leads the Abdullah Mehsud group of Taliban.
Now establishment is contacting with tribal elders of South Waziristan and pressing them to support Qari Zain against Baitullah, but tribal leaders are not responding as they are apprehensive about both, and they also fear the power of Baitullah Mehsud.
In order to defeat Baitullah, it is imperative to get the support of Mehsud tribe, and for that security forces first have to prove that they are serious and sincere this time in curbing Baitullah and they are not going to replace one Mehsud terrorist with another, and they have to break the power of Baitullah, so that tribal elder get their tribe against the Baitullah.
