Support Our Troops in FATA and Mourn Malam Jabba
By Rohail Butt • Jun 29th, 2008 • Category: Politics • (3,369 views) • 3 CommentsI for one, wholeheartedly support the ongoing military operation in the Khyber Agency. That, and I would say vehemently that this operation must start simultaneously in the all the restive regions including the whole of FATA and the Swat region and the adjoining hideouts in Mardan and Sawabi. Enough is enough.
I love Swat, and I consider it the bride of Pakistan. Have you been to Malam Jabba? It’s a paradise on earth. But now this paradise is burning. According to the media reports and how I wish that media report proves to be false that a ski resort set up at Malam Jabba in Swat by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has been burnt down. The motel, with gleaming cable cars and lifts, had been established nearly two decades ago, with Austrian support.
Can you believe that? In their sheer ignorance and stone heartedness, they have destroyed a gem. What was that motel and resort was doing to those who consider themselves champions of Islam? Actually its not about Islam or anything, rather these militants are fascinated with the power and they are only after their vested interests. They want to form their government and want to rule. They want power, and they are willing to do anything for it.
Thousands of residents of Swat were earning their money through the thriving tourism industry, which is now non-existent. These militants have deprived people of their livelihoods. It’s not Islam they are preaching, rather it’s their own nefarious hunger for the power.

I’m already very hurt on present situation of Pakistan. I have been in Malam Jabba for 2 days in July 2004. It was really an excellent place to visit. But please don’t remind me. I can’t see my country destroying in this way. We can’t expect any good in coming future too. Government not seems serious to address major issues of Pakistan. Govt. don’t want to resume judiciary and want to keep every thing uncertain. Where is ROTI, KAPRA AND MAKKAN…. Roti is exporting to Afghanistan by ruling mafia, KAPARA and MAKKAN are on fire in major areas of Pakistan now a days.
It seems that this government is very baby is holding state affairs. This Zardari has learnt nothing from his past so I’m very much hopeful that it will loose government soon too.

I wrote a comment on the topic Baithullah Masud you devil and think the same can be dealth with over here so I am copying it
Dear Rohail, what needs to be taken into account is the reasons behind the birth of the ideology of Baitullah Masud and Mangal Bagh and their subsequent statements.
For a person sitting in Islamabad or Lahore or Karachi, it is very easy to state that a millitary operation be launched and these guys be hunted down like chickens. But for a man living in FATA or Swat, it doesnot represent the ground realities.
The brith of the ideologies of these guys whom we refer to as “Taliban” has been due to the policies of our own government be them of now or of past. This term of Taliban is vaguely used to refer to all the people from those studying in madressas to baton/gun wielding so-called “millitants”.
The ideological pattern of these guys can be traced to Afghan war and the subsequent ethnic fighting that enused over the control of Kabul itself by those fighting the opressors. The “Taliban” came up as a saviour for the people of Afghanistan for with their rise their was atleast a rule of one group of people over the country. It is entirely diffrent discussion that the path they adopted later on was right or wrong.
Take Swat for instance. It was one of the most peaceful / modern places of Pakistan back in 70’s and 80’s when it was under the rule of Wali Swat. Things turned bad when it came under the rule of Federal Govt and nithing was done for the uplift of the area. The security and law and under crumbled.
Under such circumstances a group of people came up to provide Jutsice and security to the locals. Their method was crude but the group in itself grew exponentially for the locals started believeing in them, the majority did.
These people started to implement their own rules and regulations. Those rules and regulations contradicted the Westren style of laws and henceforth suddenly those areas became a “hot news” in the media. May one ask where was all the media attention back then when the whole are was under the shorud of lawlessness. No answer!!!!!!
The threat by Baitullah how much gruyesome and condenmable bears the sentiments on ground. You start a millitary operation to rout out “millitants”, the “millitants” who infer support from the locals and select group of people that was not imposed from outside but grew from within them. The army is outsders for those people for that are was never developed enough that you and me the pakistani citizens of the punjab or Sindh could go in those tribal areas.
And they are too resist those outsiders. As far as attacking Sindh or Punjab is concerned, it is us the people sitting in airconditioned rooms who think what the fuck!!!!!!!! a tourist resort has been destroyed lets bomb those bastards out…………..But the fact of the matter is you can not kill an ideology you can only moderate it and killing an ideology means killing en-mass and when you start to kill en-mass which is precisely what is happening their they will strike back and strike back right within your hearts and soul.
Henceforth a more pragmatic approach is required. Peshawar be safeguarded in whatever way it can be. But beyond the lines of tribal belt social/economic/health reforms in consultation with those branded as “millitants” can only be a way forward to bring the general public out of the arms of their “millitant leadership” and into a modearte society hence transforiming the ideology in general.
