Sri Lanka, We are Sorry

By Ch. Naeem Sidhu • Mar 3rd, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 23 Comments

On Tuesday morning, our revered Cricketing friends from Sri Lanka were attacked in Lahore, leaving the whole nation embarrassed, shocked and with our heads shaken in disbelief. With the approval of the Colombo Government, SL team decided to tour Pakistan despite security fears and they courageously defied the advice by other Cricketing nations. India was more vocal against the tour by SL team. Due to our security lapse, Tuesday shooting has helped in vindication of theri stance and has resulted in  closing doors of international Cricket in Pakistan for many years to come – the worst set back to game in its history.

Political differences, ideological distances or social restlessness, no doubt, has created chaos in our country but no such incident has taken place in our history where a sports caravan has been attacked so cowardly. Hats off to those jawans who laid their lives in a combat aimed at saving lives of the guest team.

There are many voices in Pakistan pointing fingers to India for master-minding this attack which has jeopardized the Pakistan Cricket future beyond repair. There may be ‘some’ credence in such allegations as India has emerged beneficiary of the situation in the backdrop of the acrimonious environment prevalent between two neighbours. But this drumbeat is simply out of place because we ourselves need to do some soul searching and have to admit that our security measures were insufficient.

Pakistan Cricket Board has always assured other nations that Pakistan would provide presidential level security to the visiting teams. This claim proved absolutely wrong. Everyone knows the level of security being accorded to the presidents of the country. What to talk of the incumbents, even a redundant man like Pervaiz Musharraf enjoys security which has baffled the whole nation as we get stories emanating from Chak Shahzad.

In the turbulent political situation of Punjab and in wake of mindless reshuffling of officials, the Government machinery had been confused and not attentive to their duty. This gave opportunity to the culprits who successfully operated by finding security lapses. While the high ups in Punjab were busy in their wrong doings, the terrorists found loop holes in the security.

Now Pakistan can not agitate the assertion by the international community that it is the ‘most dangerous’ country in the world. After kidnapping of UN official in Quetta, brutal murder of Polish engineer and killing of many Chinese, the Tuesday sad event would add more salt to the injury. Things are not well. The situation of stateless-ness is permeating in every corner of the country. Every Pakistani is looking at the state functionaries in Islamabad what would come out from there. Till now, only Governor Raaj, broken promises and lies have been the outcome. Future will be borne with more such events. The rose-emitting mouths are exposed.

  1. Ch. Naeem Sahib, I wonder if you are aware that somehow you seem to be suggesting that there are some ‘interested groups’ who managed to prove the inefficiency of the current political dispensation. So may I safely assume the accuracy of my claim that what we are witnessing is nothing but display of ‘muscles’ by one group of mafia gangs to the other and the people of Pakistan are just victims of crossfire? May I ask you if time has come for us the nation to demand equivocally ……..

    THEY ALL MUST GO!

  3. Security??…….what security??

    >> NO BULLET PROOF GLASS in the Sri Lankan team bus.

    >>NO COMMANDO PROTECTION to Sri Lankan team.Commando protection is NATURAL considering the number of terror attacks in Pakistan..

Above two are very basic security requirement MISSED BY SECURITY AGENCIES.

    >>How did terrorist KNEW THE ROUTE of the SL team bus??

    Another MAJOR QUESTION.

    >>How could ALL 12 TERRORIST ESCAPE?????????

    >>Why ONLY POLICE were protecting them ?

  4. My first feelings match exactly with your title…”we are sorry” and honestly speaking i have not recovered from my initial feeling…..coz am scared to even think about the future of cricket in pakistan. May God bless us all…

  5. Why high value heavily protected targets SO EASY TO ATTACK……………..??

    Consider this:

    1> Benazir Bhutto assassination.

    2> Marriot bombings.

    3> Sri Lankan team attack……………..

All high value heavily protected (( now i guess UN-PROTECTED)) TARGETS . How could terrorist attack them so easily???????

    @@@@@@@@

1>> Benazir SHOT FROM CLOSE RANGE!

She was the Most important politician in Pakistan…….how could people go so near to her ???

2>>Mariott hotel……a heavily protected hotel as reported in the newspapers………how could A TRUCK ENTER ITS COMPOUND ????

    >> in both the above case THE ATTACKERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN STOPPED earlier.

    3>>Now this one……Read comment 3.

  6. Instead of striking deals with terrorists…….take them HEAD ON!!

    >>A simple question:-

Can you change the HATEFUL MIS-GUIDED EXTREME ideology of terrorists through deals?????

Can u RE-WASH THEIR MINDS with Sufi Islam/true islam by striking deals??????

They are CANCER for any society ……if u try to contain them THEY WILL SPREAD!

    You got to REMOVE IT!

When mumbai was attacked SAME VOICES said the SAME THINGS.

    No credibility whatsoever!!

  9. These are most probably the bastard filthy Alqaeda/Taliban Terrorists who want to destroy our way of living. They want to destroy our Mosques, Schools, Colleges, our Sports and everything. They shouldn’t be tolerated at all. Whatever the US is doing through drone attacks is absolutely correct. If we do not clean our own house, others will have to clean it. And we must also fix those who sympathise with these terrorists, such as elements of Jamat-e-Islami

Our goverment committed a great blunder by signing a truce with the terrorists in Swat. There is only one way to deal with these terrorist and that is Full Force

Meanwhile our liberal democratic parties like PPP, PML-N, PML-Q should also forget their differences and should do all they can to defend democracy and our way of life against these dark and evil forces of extremism and terrorism. We can never surrender our country to millitants, extremists or their sympathizers!

  11. No one can say who dun it unless it’s proven after thorough investigations and of course if the investigations get resulted and bring forward to the world.

But I think our politicians Zardari, Qazi, Sharif brothers, Kurd, Aitazaz, Iftikhar Ch etc must share their portion of responsibility in bringing Pakistan at this estate of anarchy and chaos so that the FB terrorists are taking full advantage of this situation.

These above mentioned are really selfish people and do not have little patriotism in them. What I am trying for 2 years for FUCK SAKE forget each and every differnce and come united in front of the world to show their love and solidarity with the country and nation. But Alas!

This is like a dream of a mad man.

We (people of Pakistan) watching whole Tamasha with FULL BEBASI and never know what is our mistake.

The other aspects of this mismanagement of government affairs also resulted in land grabbing, encroachments, higher inflation rate, stopping of development funds, unemployment, escalation of crimes etc etc.

If these politicians (F*** B***) stop fighting among themselves than only they could pay attention to solve the problems of common man.

YEY KAMEENEY LOG BADI AASANI SEY KEH DETEY HEIN AGAR YEH NA HUA TO PAKISTAN TOOT JAEGA (IS KA MATLAB HEY KE HUM TOD DEIN GEY).

  12. This is a very sad moment for CRICKET. Nobody cares about PAKISTAN but now people will have apprehensions of CRICKET or any sport in PAKISTAN.

I guess the only sport PAKISTAN is good at right now is SHOOTING.

I feel for SRI LANKAN cricketers who risked thier LIFE only for CRICKET.

I see a motherfcuker who is blatantly blaming India for it. The low down dirty snake is fcuked in the head to even think that way.

But in all this i see a moment to rejoice. Pakistan will get isolated even more and getting closer to be recognised as a TERRORIST NATION.

  13. We are so SORRY Ceylon.

    BUT ALSO THANKFUL:
Thank you, Sri Lanka, for sending your cricket team to Pakistan when no one was prepared to come here. Thank you for the kindness of your diplomat in Pakistan for stating in his TV interview that this terrible incident was perhaps directed towards the police and not the Sri Lankan team. Thank you, Sanath Jasuriya, for your support by saying on an Indian TV that this kind of incident could have happened in any country. Thank you, Kumar Sangakkara, for your bravery by stating that you have no regrets to have visited Pakistan. Thank you, Sri Lanka, for collectively standing by us — a nation that is today faced with an utter sense of loss.

  14. [...] Sidhu ha comunicato [in] la notizia come segue: Martedì mattina, i nostri rispettabili amici giocatori di cricket [...]

  15. Beta Fahim K,

Sri Lankans are not standing by you or any pakistan. They have left for Sri Lanka for good and they are never going to come back to Pakistan in future. Sri Lankans are thankful to Pakistan for giving them the confirmation and showing to the world that Pakistan is indeed a TERRORIST STATE. A country run by goons and jihadis.

  16. Even a reasonably intelligent of 13 can tell that India is behind these attacks, something that our ‘leaders’ are unable to give voice to.

  17. Talal Hussain Malik

Only 13 year old can say SUCH THINGS

  18. SAME PEOPLE saying the SAME THINGS

After Mumbai attacks SAME PAKISTANIS said the SAME THINGS………blame on India.

After Lahore attacks SAME PEOPLE saying the SAME THINGS!!

    Some people NEVER GROW UP

  19. Dr. Raza Haider:
PLEASE STOP IT!. You should not blame India for the inefficiencies of our government!

The evil Taliban and their local sympathizers like the Lashkar-e-Taiba are the enemies of India, enemies of Pakistan alike! These evil forces threaten democracy in our country and want to take our country back to the stone ages. These filthy taliban terrorists don’t even refrain from bombing our own mosques.

The truth is that our PPP government is still not taking the threat of Talibanisation seriously. It is a failure on part of our government to sign a truce with these terrorists in Swat, that has given them opportunity to re-arm and target our cities.

In the past 8 months of PML’s Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s democratically elected government in Punjab, there was never such an incident of terrorism occuring in any major city of Punjab. This explains the good governance of our former democratically elected Chief Minister, a brother of Mian Nawaz Sharif, who initiated a genuine and sincere peace process with India, which was later sabotaged by Musharraf, the bastard dictator, responsible for Kargil. It was Musharraf who nurtured terrorist groups to destabilise India, inorder to divert attention from his domestic failures, and played double game with the US and covertly supported taliban terrorists. And this has been proved by the recent articles, published in the US press. Musharraf’s 8 years in power are to be blamed for whatever terrorism we are facing in Pakistan, India and the world. India is a very lucky country in terms of their democratic traditions. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, military dictators have uprooted democracy times and again.

Unfortunately, when Mr. Zardari imposed governor’s rule in Punjab, nearly all the police official who were experts in counter terrorism measures and were doing really good work for last 8th months were changed/transferred by the Zardari appointed Governor Salman Taseer. The Governor started using Punjab Police for supressing political oppositon in the province and consequently, the police was more focussed on political front, instead of performing their duties. This is the most correct explanation of this unfortunate incident.

Instead of offending each other, and spreading hatred for one another, we Indians and Pakistanis should unite against the common threat of terrorism and extremism and defend democracy in our countries. Extremist, regardless of whether they are Hindus or Muslims are enemies of us all!
