Schools Closed in Pakistan; Fear of Terrorism; For How Long?
By Brig. (r) Junaid Zaman • Oct 21st, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 19 CommentsFor the last couple of days, it was learned that the terrorists were planning to hijack some children school bus, especially in Rawalpindi and Islamabad area. The threat was so pervasive and taken very much seriously, and most of the schools in twin cities of Rawalpindi, Islamabad remained closed.
Now after the attack on the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), the fear is tangible and the alarm is ringing loud, and now most of the schools, colleges and the universities will remain closed during this week. Will they open next week, or the next week? How long we can manage to keep our education centers closed down?
And more importantly what impact that is making upon the minds of students besides the loss these future of the country are suffering regard of their career and precious education time? Well, the threat is real, but this solution is not permanent or not even workable. Terrorists have ample time and they can remain dormant for a long time, as we have seen in some attacks that the terrorists remained in area for months before they struck.
We need not to panic and we need not to make our children coward and fearful. We need to talk to our girls and boys, let them know about the threat, ask them to keep vigil, make them understand the danger our country is in and about the menace of terrorism. Make them strong and bold and make them learn to live in the tough times. When they will emerge from these times, they will be far ahead to face the life as compared to other kids of this world.
Schools and colleges must employ the private security guards. Most of the schools have 3 to 4 buses at maximum with two gates. Schools should keep two fully armed guards with each bus, and two guards at the gates. Teachers must keep the hope alive and imbue courage and strength in the students.
We all are in it and we all have to face it and combat the enemy, and yes we can do it, and do we will, InshAllah.

Kids are fearful, very very fearful and they are traumatized.
Nice encouragement brig.
Brigadier Saheb,
The fight is tragically taking the shape of HAVE NOTS LED BY HAKEEMULLAH AND HAVES LED BY KIYANI. i WAS TOLD IN THE FIRST ATTACK AGAINST mOHTRAMMA bENAZIR the terrorist used a newborn baby with bomb to lure her.So anything goes. Pakistani army created this monster with US help and now the whole nation of Pakistan is facing the music.
Johnn, I agree to you as you likely to say that prevention is better than cure.
Recent attack on Islamic University shows the length to which terrorists can go to terrorize people and as always they have succeeded to do so.Employing guards at school and universities is not the solution, how many schools and universities will have guards?since it isnt about educational institutes only. The threat lingers high everywhere, combating it is another thing but most important is to root it out completely.
First close the educational institute , then hospitals and then close all offices related to public services and give bangles to Rehman malik so that he could proudly go to president house for securing all country under his interior ship.
This way we actually accept our defeat against successful harassment created by groups living inside us.This seed of horror and terror was sowed by Musharraf regime to hypnotize the mass as per their brain washing done through such suicidal bombers and using the power of media. As zardari govt is linkage with last regime so they also adopted same features to horrify us .
They are unaware that too much survival in violence and consternation leads nation toward fearless and senseless state and we are heading towards insensate frame of mind in coming days,.
What exactly is the Brig. worried about? If schools remain closed and children remain bereft of education what is the worst that can happen? They could either take to terrorism (shortest route to paradise) or join up the army like the good old Brig. Junaid Zaman here and scheme and plot and nurture jihadis, all in the name of ’strategic depth’, before turning to write inane blogs and the vicious circle would go on.
Brig shahib is only worried about that people dont forget their childhood lesson like
Pak fauj thujey salam.
Teeri azmat ko saat salam.
pak fauj kay jawan hay hum
he is trying to vigil the people around us with out knowing that these jihadi like described people are abundantly existing in our surrounding if you move any civic area so to whom we exactly watch,
Our GHQ security men even couldnt differentiate the attackers for more than one hour as all had been mingled after first grenade attack.
So we are trying to separate the sand from soil and that is practically possible only in VIPs enclosures and no way applied on public places.
what the hell should we students do while sitting home? we are not cowards but yes we do enjoy a vacation!!!!!!!!!!
yippppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!! they say they are closing school 4 another week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Management of schools are ordered by government to hire snipers and bomb sensing equipments to assure the security of kids before reopening.
to whom the school would charge for all this on the name of security?
they would arrange all this and expenses would be added in extra fees bill.
Parents are already bearing the security expenses ranging from 200 to 2000 Rs each month. I hope after one such incident would be there the school will order to use bullet proof jackets as part of school uniform.
Hats off or on for rehman malik and his high profile security plans
It is INDEED gratifying to see you are tasting your own bitter medicine you were providing to the people of India for couple of decades.
Raj
try to swallow the realities first and then blame others.
There have been seven more bitter medicines for people of India in the form of movements namely Assam Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
I fully hope that no single intruder from Pakistan side is involved in these movements for couple of decades.
@Nazia# 13
Your hopes are in vain. Contrary to popular belief (in pakistan), almost every single movement you mention has a Pakistani angle. It’s true you know … “As you sow .. so you reap”
Btw … most of the movements that you mention have either died down or are struggling to stay alive … and all that not by military operations … but by the power of democracy .. it is a slow medicine, but it removes all ills.
As operation against terrorists is going on in Waziristan, it may be possible that terrorists can attack or make hostage students in any educational institution to compel Government withdraw forces from Waziristan or put any other demands to release their accomplices as our agencies reported.
I think administration of all educational institutions and government should take maximum measures for the security of all educational institutions in order to avert any untoward incidents but our institutions should remain open, if we close schools and colleges owing to prevailing threats which I think the victory of terrorists and we can leave terror on the minds of our kids and nation, we should be united against terrorism and help and support to law enforcement agencies, we can defeat and eradicate terrorism if we are united as whole nation.
Our army soldiers and offices are rendering great sacrifices for Pakistan, we salute them on their bravery. Almighty ALLAH bless on Pakistan. Ammen

RE #13
Nazia, today’s Dwan has a piece by Nadeem Paracha on the role of “moderates” in Pak. Reminds of you.
I wasn’t referring to the sessionist movements you have mentioned. ISI prints Indian currency and supplies money to them, and provided logsitical support in NE India from East Pakistan.
But I wasn’t referring to those when I said you are tasting your own bitter medicine. I was specifically referring to punjabi terrorists, ISI terrorists hijacking planes, attacking Indian parliamnet, bombing commuter trains, temples and bazaars in India.
This is the first time Pak punjabis are tasting the terrorism tonic. For decades they have heaped it on others- Bengali Muslims and Hindus, Kashmiri muslims and Hindus, Sikhs, Hindus and Sikhs in Indian Punjab, Hindus and Muslims of Mumbai, Delhi, Japipur, Varanasi and so on.
