Ridiculing the Poets

By Talal Hussain Malik • Aug 21st, 2008 • Category: Entertainment • (3,964 views) • 4 Comments

FREE SMS packages as offered by some mobile phone companies have their consequences. Our nation seems to have a great sense of humour and even more is its ability to forward such messages. Messages containing jokes ridiculing Sadar ji and Pathan are now a common place, now a new way of making others laugh has been adopted by sending funny couplets. The sad part, however, is that these couplets include the pseudo name ‘Faraz’ , thus ridiculing the famous poet of the country and cell phones are flooded with such messages. Whereas some couplets seem humorous, others are simply stupid. For instance:

Sufaid kameez mein kyon phir raha hay Faraz

Aj kala jora pa saadi farmaish tay.

There is no problem with trying to make others laugh by sending SMS but doing so on account of another person’s denigration is shameless act. Is this how we pay tribute to our asset on the death-bed?

What you will expect from a society, who merely holds social ethics, social values, respect of elders and heroes, regard of parents and seniors, kindness with poor and weak people, unity, professional code of conduct, value of promises etc etc.

It is very much common in our society that we only enjoys such jokes, those are substandard and insulting.

We can only pray for better future. Allah bless us wisdom and ethics, to live as normal citizen.

The couplet in question is bit stupid alright but I wouldn’t say it is ridiculing our national poet Faraz as such. At least this does not seem to be the intention of this poet if he can be called that.

    Saleem Khan:
Why do we leave everything to prayers and Allah. Allah is not going to send his angels to reform us. Those days are gone when Allah used to send his angels to help us win wars as well. We will have to make some effort to reform ourselves. Each one of us can make some contribution, no matter how small, in this direction. I don’t mean by way of preaching. We have more preachers than we need. Don’t we have more mosques than we need. And have you ever heard a mulla ever preaching something sensible. All he talks about is Hakook Allah and rituals and seldom talks of Hakook ul Abad which is more important. What we really need is education and more and better schools. We have had enough religion. Now for a change let us strive to have some education as well.

” Your are Goodman The Lantern ”
In Indian subcontinent, Lantern was a common source of light. Many companies manufactured lanterns, but the most popular ” Goodman Lantern, was considered The Best ” People were so happy with its built, and performance, that when they really like some one, called him ” He is a Goodman The Lantern”
