Return of Swat IDPs
By Fatima Tassaduq • Jul 18th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 2 CommentsOperation ‘Rah-e-Rast’ against the militants in Malakand Division is continuing unabated, while in different areas of Shangla, Swat and Lower Dir curfew is in the relaxing mode. Security forces heavy guns are carrying on shelling overnight and in the daytime the militants’ hideouts in different areas of Lower Dir including the upper areas of Swat’s Tehsil Kabal. Search and cleanup operation in other areas of Malakand is also in the final stages.
IDPs in the camps and in the homes of the people are desperate to return to their homes. Federal and NWFP government must be on their toes to start rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Malakand division after clearance from the security forces, which could come anytime from now on.
Before the return of the IDPs, it is prudent that basic utilities of life should be restored. Though only the assurance of peace from the security forces is suffice to trigger the mass return of IDPs to their respective areas. News reports are that police have started patrolling in Mingora while Frontier Constabulary (FC) have established posts in several areas to ensure peace in the valley.
Time is drawing near for the guests to return.

It is start of another dark night for them when they will reach home. But I think dark night of home is better option then living in harsh areas where they consider themselves as homeless and dejected citizens.
Best of luck to the IDPs in resuming their normal lives
