Rapid Advance of Security Forces in South Waziristan : Beware

(r) Junaid Zaman • Nov 10th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 23 CommentsTehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Hakimullah Mehsud, the lead terrorist of the country right now is vacating areas of South Waziristan agency while putting up little fight in the way of Pakistani security forces.
Kotkai, Sararogha, Ladha and now Makeen is loosely under the control of the security forces. There was little resistance along the way and little loss of the terrorists. Only four hundred terrorists have been said killed, whereas their number is between 15000 to 20000. Reports are that they have already fled from the area and taken refuge in North Waziristan, Kurram and Orakzai agency.
The ease and rapidness through which the security forces have battled through the strongholds of terrorists during operation Rah-e-Nijat in South Waziristan is a matter of concern for the strategists and the planners. It was kind of expected. Terrorists doesn’t have the resources to combat the Pakistani professional forces in the battleground. They have scattered throughout their familiar hostile terrain and they will now try to engage the forces at disparate places in guerrilla fight, in which they are so adept.
The real fight, the real operation Rah-e-Nijat in South Waziristan will began then. This is when the terrorists will start doing what they have been doing with the NATO forces for years, and NATO forces are hapless. So what should be done?
It is extremely crucial to think out of the box. There is no other option but to engage the locals to trackdown, to identify, to eliminate the terrorists. Locals know these terrorists for years, and they are accustomed of this terrain, and they can spy and even fight with security forces. To win this war, Pakistani forces have to rely on the locals, which shouldn’t be that much difficult.
NATO forces have failed because they are hated by the locals. Pakistani forces are not hated and they need to clear the air out there. This is where our government should also play its role and engage with the literally defunct political administration. Men should be recruited among the Waziristan IDPs from D.I. Khan and Peshawar. This is the key to win this war.

As they say that the terrorists are escaping towards North and Kurram, why didn’t they earlier surrounded them?

You are absolutely correct on this. Also the forces must occupy high ground and control the access back to these towns.The frontier constabulary vacated some forts in this area which should be manned with good defence. Some very able Brigadiers in Army are being target killed. Why sir?
Johann sahab, the target killing of top military men is part of this war. It’s not as widespread as it is being touted. Just 3 incidents have happened, from which only one was successful for the terrorists.
I am glad to see that after seeing the disastrous results in swat our incompetent generals have either “fixed”this war or guerrilla tactics are again being utilized by these warriors as they did in Red war in which they left the center point and went on far away hiding places for further deals with actual war lords.
This time record numbers of officers have been withdrawal their names from front line attacks and lowest numbers have been inducted to front war zones.On the basis of principles these war runners should be fired as they did in 1965 where record number of middle order officer were fired whom were moved form central command to front line.
But here lack of professionalism is again observed in our army managers who instead of learning lesson from such attitude are preferring to cordially replace these poltroons to either soft areas of their choice or early retirement is being awarded to them and then inducted to lucrative posts of army circles.
Under kiyani’s order extra extraordinary forcibly jobs are being created in fauji foundation like organizations where in place of one officers 3 and 4 officers are being inducted on the basis of power of favoritism.

Both Kyiani and Musharraf are trying to reverse the after effects of zia regime and it is to eradicate all who work and believe on the concept of Talibanisation. These competent brigadiers were “would be generals” and might create hurdles for this eradication plans so kiyani is not in mood of making fuss for him and general tariq majeed wants to clear slate of all who are against him and Saudi funded talibans.
I think this is enough for you other wise more I will open my mouth , here ex army officers of TPS would jump into discussion to twitch me as per their habit.
This lead story should have more comments as I would like to highlight one issue here. These men are giving their lives for us. We need to appreciate that and not be like the PRINT MEDIA. Today The NATION and the DAWN METROPILITAN gave the news on the main page that the encounter made in E11 attack, Islamabad on November 8 was fake. What message will this convey to the security people?? Media has gone crazy for a few bucks and is selling foolish news to destroy our society. Someone needs to speak up for this.
The media should be careful on what to report and how to report it. The metropolitan has accused the Police department on faking the encounter of the suspected suicide bomber on Sunday night. This is a serious allegation without any concrete proof or factual data to back it up with. This can be very demoralizing as it is a good thing if our security forces are doing their jobs properly.

you know interior ministry for last 4 days are mounting pressure on police of both twin cities that 4 suicidal bombers are roaming in streets so go and get them at all costs.Poor men are in surveillance for last four days along with giving full security to marriage ceremony of son of CPO pindi.So they couldnt detect them as it is like searching a needle from sand so I think they created such scenes to get some relaxing hours from this drama.
One thing is clear to locals that our police is expert in creating such scenes and nothing surprise like that but this state of war has really brought bad times for them as now both terrorists and civilian prefer to target them first and then go for another targets.

I wonder why some of the Pakistanis are gone so nuts? They feel so cozy while sitting in the laps of our arch enemies and probably have lost their sight also that they can’t see beyond their own noses that how our enemies are all out to see us fall apart asunder and depleted and they want to sit with them on swings to swing a swing of romance.

I am living for last year in this burning Rome.Hardly a day passed when I heard a tragic incident of blast or threats near to me or people whom I know directly or indirectly..This insecurity is not first time prevailing in my life but thrice it has happened so I become fearless of any danger but deeply looking for real causes that what nuisance is going on around us again and again.
My all search goes to my own house and its residents so I have full rights to highlight and criticize it with my capacity.I have no interest of romantic swinging or playing flute with enemies as my burning surroundings are not allowing me to even think about it.
Today you know I heard the real tragedy of a family whom five family members have either expired or badly injured in this war games.
You remember once I told a story of lady doctor in TPS who was victim of bomb blast and lost her left side of arm, body and an eye with facial burning.She then lost her husband a major in army in swat war first got injured then blood transfusion transmitted Hepatitis to him killing in two months.Her one brother in law was attacked by grenade in recent GHQ attack and lost his one side with severe burning under treatment in CMH .
Few years back her two cousins trained in ISI camp under JI surveillance were sent to Kashmir jihad and since that time no news of their survivals had come to their family.
So after hearing such real incidents and seeing the miseries of normal family which are increasing as the war is prolonging in our surrounding do you think we are now normal citizen.
Like them there are hundreds of families who are suffering all this without any contribution in creation of this mess .
You have seen all scenes of Karachi and little bit of 1971 incidents.
both are different but Karachi actions are highly linked with present situation in northern side.
In both game plans frustrated youth were first charred on focal and ethnic issues and when they become out of control ,tried to eradicate with force.has our army ended this mess in Karachi.

TTP has become reality of Paksitan whether we like it or not and can only be retrieved towards constructive sides by educating and developing their surroundings which are ensuing more aggressions due to forceful actions on them,
Daily attack on civilians as did today in charsada is itself explaining their control in our inner weaknesses.

But I hope you know that best of Jihad that Allah expect us to conduct is a jihad where you cleanse your self and I believe that at the moment this nation is doing that jihad. It is all out to cleanse the evil away from among themselves. It is cleansing of all the traitors and their abettors whether they are their supporters or the sympathizers who are not living with them but do hawk around in print or electronic media like JI, Fazlu or Tehrik e Insaf of Kamran Khan and their Cohorts. We need to cleanse them out of our ranks and files of these culprits to have a new Pakistan. name them and shame them.There is no place for any traitors in Pakistan and no more act of treason that this nation may bear and that some people like to sit in the laps of enemy for fame, largeses and money. I hope you also know that In Malakand –Swatt—- in order to have a good cleansing—- this nation showed their resolve that it is capable of vacating the entire area so that culprits can be picked up and taken to the task. There were about 3 million IDPs that they under took a mass migration for the said cause. Left the area for our forces to give a good sweep and this operation was completed so successfully. No nation on this planet can come at par or even come near us.
In South Waziristan here we have just a population to become IDPs of some five hundred thousands in this barren land. This may not be any problem. This nation with its meager resources can handle it very well. The culprits are still holdidng to their dens are at the RUN and being rounded up. there days are numbered.
A new history is in making and our Armed Forces with all their sacrifices is also going to break that myth that this god forsaken area has never been scaled and its administration put in order in the past. This will change Insha Allah.

It seems beforre your army operation there was no sugar shortage, power cuts, bad roads in these areas.They had better life than even in Karachi .Now they are IDPs.
They had better security due to some local system they had, no suicide blasts, minimum thefts, minimum eve teasing etc.
Your army has to do what Brig Zaman has proposed quickly.

Khokar is unaware of miseries of homeless people by giving them civilized terminology of IDPs.
He is just taking this number as extra growth from trees or herd of sheep moved here and there under some planning of human minds.
He is ignoring of exact living condition of 3rd world IDPs which have even placed in lower status of living than pets of our ruling groups.
He is also unaware of troubles of people whose time of life is now passing in long queues for flour, sugar and on fuel pumps.
He doesn’t want to listen the agony of people whose love ones are being victim of suicidal bomb blasts.
For him the projection of daily scenes of horror and terror is like demoralizing our forces fighting for purposeless objectives in our borders.
I can only say to you in favor of him.

your comments are appreciateable. This all happening due to some bad sheeps which sold their nation integrity for few dollars. we are bearing with all of this and we have to get them out. Army is playing it’s major role.
Israel can not win the battle few years ago against Hizbullah bcz locals were with them. in waziristan battle if local support us we will win the battle.
Now after the 28th of this month a big change you all will see. some bad sheeps will be sweeped.

I know the change is likely to be done any time and I am hinting it many times in my comments but I have lot of premonitions about it as it is maneuvering in military cells that would be executed to destroy our weak parliamentary system.
Present political ambiguities should be cleared off by strong political moves in which no military and US interests should be regarded as priority.
You are wrongly comparing the example of hizbullah with our paid warriors in Waziristan.
Hizballuh has won the faith and trust of people and these people need money, drug and arms deals for cooperation as our army and govt always treated them like that and supported this tribal system as this way they get the help of these paid guerrillas for hidden wars and activities.
