President Zardari Minus His Advisors Would be Fine
By Ali Yar Khan • Nov 25th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 5 CommentsWhat Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani could do for Pakistan right now is to save the president from himself. President isn’t watching the obvious and getting trapped in the swamp again and again by acting upon the directions his advisors are laying out for him. Premier could replace the advisors of president, become his advisor and cut down on president’s power, and things will be much more conducive for the country and for the president too, and this will also save PPP from lots of embarrassment, which is in the offing.
Since the elections last year, government has failed to deliver and the blame is going to the democracy and some people have the audacity to even say that dictatorship was better than this sham democracy. The truth is that the democracy is not guilty, rather the governance, or it’s sheer absence is.
Popular cynicism about government representing the interests of insiders and economic elites is even more extreme now than it was last year. The corruption stories, and above all the last ditch efforts to save the corruption and to get a bail out from the courts is practically inserting last nails in the regime.
It’s time that the premier should show an audacity, a decency, an idealism, and an eloquence and bring in change from top to bottom, starting from the top by clipping the powers of president and sending his advisors packing.

Why MINUS ONE? What is great about gillani except that he works on orders of Kiyani. Zardari is elected by people of Pakistan like Benazir, nawaz sheriff etc.He is corrupt. so what? Allow him to rule for 5 years and throw him out if he doesnot perform. But this minus one formula shows the mafia doesnot like Baloach or a Sindhi to rule Pakistan peacefully even if elected.
Fair enough the list of NRO beneficiaries is a new “hot” story, however, the media should not nonstop focus on it as much as it is, instead if the media acts optimistically on the fight against terror and help us unite then that would be something constructive. The media can help us raise our voices against terrorism.
The Taliban and Al Qaeda are trying to destabilize our country however we will not let them do so and in the process we can use the help of the media. The media can help cause mass awareness on how we are standing against terrorism like in the case of Swat operation.
The government failed to deliver? Clearly you’re living in one of those worlds where none of the work Zardari’s done for the economy, our international image or against terrorism counts for much because you have some impossibly high imaginary standards taht probably nobody but you could reach. We should be fighting against the terrorism gripping the country rather than picking apart our government so thanklessly.
The maligning and vilified campaign against democracy shows that some elements have very death wish of political class. It is somewhat harder to fathom why some elements become willing player in the games whose aim is to rundown and discredit the democracy. These elements are the worst enemies of Pakistan. Media is the one of the major supporter of these elements because it is willing part of campaigns against democracy and democratic leadership.
The so called intellectual seen criticizing President Zardari and Govt on T.V screens and print Media, even forget the fact they are defying mandate of masses of Pakistan by delivering their so called . Zardari is elected president of Pakistan and did a lot for the country.
There could be lots of shortcomings in Zardari, he is not angel but it is fact that Zardari became a leader when he refused to compromise with those who wanted to sign a confession and leave the country, just like Nawaz Sharif and his family did after reaching a deal with Musharraf and fled the country.
One should not forget the defining moment was Zardari’s decision to stop those who were shouting anti Pakistan and anti Punjab slogans after Benazir’s body was flown to Sindh for burial. Everyone was crying, the emotions were high, but Zardari stepped forward and directly confronted people from his own province, Sindh and snubbed those who were blaming Punjabi elements in establishment for Benazir’s death. Zardari’s courageous decision to confront those angry workers told me, and millions of other skeptics that Zardari is a man of courage and conviction.
