Pilgrimage (Hajj)
By The Pakistani Spectator • Jul 24th, 2007 • Category: Uncategorized • 5 Comments •Once a year Muslims around the world go to Makkah (Saudi Arabia) to perform Hajj (Pilgrimage) during 9~11th day of Islamic month of Zil-Hajj. In old times people do travel from many locations around the world on foot or on animal back. As the means of travel improved people start to avail ships and after some time air-planes to reach Makkah.
This year more than 159,000 people from Pakistan only shall travel to Makkah, mostly by Pakistan International Airline (PIA). This year PIA has increased the Hajj fare (may be it increases every year or so) stating that PIA is in loss. Even in India Muslim are offered much support for the Pilgrimage. Rather than giving support to Hajjis PIA try to earn from them on increased rates each year. The reason they tell that our planes return without any passenger on board from Saudi Arabia, so they have to cover extra fuel cost. Increased Umrah fares is not understandable.
This situation is like a rickshaw, which carry passenger throughout the day on ordinary rate and when it is night they charge double fare as they shall not get any passenger in return.
To tackle this problem of increased charging Government of Pakistan may ask other air lines, en-route to their destination, pass through sub-continent (providing Halal food), to carry some Hajjis to Makkah and vice versa. Or PIA may increase its marketing that upon return they may get some passengers by changing its route (to cover only fuel cost) to Pakistan. Concerned authorities should think upon it seriously to reduce fare charged to Hajjis.

Now thats an incredibly workable suggestion.
Until and unless we dont remove the incompetent minister like Ijaz ul Haq, there is a very little chance, Hajj policy would improve.
Hajj is the only chance for PIA to earn anything.
I agree the planes of PIA are more like Rickshaws. And as Europa doesnt recognize and realize the benefits of Rickshaws, they have banned many rickshaws of PIA from their countries.
What a loss to Europa, if they only realize it.
