By Brig. (r) Junaid Zaman • Oct 8th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 3 Comments

Things areĀ  now seems to be moving in any directions now. With the reports that Nawaz Sharif is mediating between the Taliban and the Afghan government with the facilitation of the Saudi government with the approval of the United States and the United Kingdom, and also the Zardari’s convening of joint session of parliament are very powerful messages that now our leaders are getting serious about the threats faced by the country.

An in-camera Joint sitting of the Parliament summoned by President Asif Ali Zardari would be held today to brief the elected representatives of the people on the security situation in the country. The joint session would also be informed about the security measures as well as steps being taken to fight out terrorism and to better law and order situation. Director General Military Operations Lt. General Ahmed Shuja Pasha would brief the in-camera joint session of the Parliament, National Assembly and the Senate of Pakistan.

Parliament must be made supreme now, and President Zardari must not convene this meeting just an eye wash. He must empower the parliament and instead of just giving them bullshit of figures and statistics, he must ensure that parliamentarian get the true picture and they debate the issue exhaustively and come up with solutions with risks and advantage.

It’s time that our elected representatives join hands in wiping out the scourge of terrorism for the survival of our country.

  1. Sir,

  2. ” Parliament Session ” On important issues, a regular proceeding, practice in any democratic system sound like a blessing in Pakistan, with doubts in minds.
I pray as Johann is praying:
“God bless the people of Pakistan”

  3. It is interesting that military is being represented by the new ISI chief.
    Is Kayani out?

In any event this whole thing is pointless. The president has already made all the new arrangements with our new friends. I know it looks good that all that nice space ‘parliament house’ is being put to good use, plus the new guy gets to play the boss.
