Pakistan Should Recognize Intersex Gender
By Amna Gilani • Dec 6th, 2008 • Category: Misc, Worth A Second Look • 13 CommentsAlong with the male and female gender, Pakistani government should include a third gender “intersex” for the people having both male and female sexual characteristics and organs. Intersex people get their gender by birth and at birth an unambiguous assignment of male or female cannot be made.
In Pakistan these intersex people have virtually no right and due to the pathetic and narrow-minded social taboos, we even refuse to recognize this problem. Moreover, these intersex people are an object of ridicule, fun, derogation, and they are merely used and abused by the people for their warped sexual fantasies. As intersex people are not entertained anywhere in education, jobs or welfare, they resort to prostitution and crimes for their survival.
In order to eliminate this injustice, the government of Pakistan must include a clause in the official documents of intersex gender along with male and female. It should be mentioned on national identity card, driving license and passport and a quota must be reserved for these special people in jobs, educations and other walks of life. Above all, we as the “normal ladies and gentlemen” must learn to respect our intersex fellow human beings.

very true..its very amazing when we see people making fun of them. i was brought up in russia where they are treated very normally and they are actively participating in different walks of life. Most of them opt for fashion designing and beauty clinics. i dont know why is it so here. just imagine yourself as a person who happens to belong from transgenders and then think of how the behaviors of people should be
@ Sania: There is a difference between intersex people and transgenders. Intersex are by birth, whereas transgenders are by choice.
As always, Amna you rock and roll. You have got a natural gift. There is no one like you around here.
Thanks Alamgir…I admit my mistake…i am new to english and still learning…thanks anyway…have a nice time
In this case the first blame should be given to parents of such child who immediately give up this child after the birth in the hands of such gangs that would ultimately use them as sex slaves or trained them as professional beggars. What ever is being done to such children in our subcontinent,it is a unique entity of our culture as no other culture can use them as we do here.In arab culture you hardly found any such character as there parents never give up their intersex child. Many examples also exists in our culture that some of them were transformed into proper unisex form after some surgery and hormone treatment. Our weak govt cant do anything for normal human beings so accepting something from govt for such kind is only dream of fools.Parents and NGOs can play better role for converting them into useful citizens as these people are found more energetic and loving than normal human beings.
I think nazia is correct as this custom is prevalent in whole of south asia. Previoulsy they used to be employed as guards in harems. Now they indulge in criminal activity or prostitutin. Even our filmdom makes fun of them. ofcourse amna takes up always difficult topics.
u r so beutiful amna
I find it very difficult to disagree from the strong comments from Nazia. Definitely the main responsibility rests on the parents’ shoulders. But once a done is done… Now comes our role to accept them in our society to keep them away from where they are…

These people can be treated normally in Pakistan as well if they themselves wanted to. No body will stop them if they want to educate themselves or want to do something else other than what they are doing now. They did not have any choice on birth but once in this world they have the choice what to be as human.
These people are human and should be treated like anyone else, not some kind of circus act like people in pakistan treat them.
Firstly we all fail to realize that they are the creation of God and we humns have no right to make fun of God’s creation.Secondly we even do not recognize the fact that it is not their mistake in being ehat they are-it just happened with them.If the Pakistani society continues to degrade, disrespect and reject them then these people would be left nowhere. We should not forget that they are ‘humans’ and like all humans have a right to live properly!
