Pakistan on Global Stage
By Amin Rehman • Mar 14th, 2010 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 4 CommentsPakistan has always been a player at the global stage since its emergence as an independent country in 1947. Unfortunately after the demise of founding father Muhammad Ali Jinnah, his colleagues quickly tried to grab their booty considering this country as a reward for the combined struggle of residents and migrants. Muslim League wanted the bigger share being the single largest party which had struggled to liberate this portion of Pakistan from British Raj and prevented a Hindu domination and thus ensuring a safe heaven for Muslims of Subcontinent. Army was looking from sidelines as a player too and wanted the fighting egoistic landlord politicians and deprived migrated politicians to fail quickly so as to grab a chance to rectify the situation.
Instead of building the political and administrative institutions, industries, educational and health systems, laws for good governance the pillars of state started to show their wisdom and overpower each other with the result that country was overpowered by most powerful i.e. bureaucracy and army. We did not care for any institution building during the golden decade rather fought one war with India which pushed us back by at least 10 years. We didn’t learn any lesson despite our heavy losses and kept on ridiculing our own people in Eastern wing through powerful administrators and ultimately forced them to separate from our more powerful part. We fought second war within 10 years against whom? our own people who were supported by Indian Army.
Politicians came to the forefront after 1971 and Army, bureaucracy nexus went into oblivion for a short while but came back strongly in 1977 for another golden decade of Islamisation and fought our third converted war against Russia in which we were declared victors by the world umpires as Russians retreated to their homeland after being defeated by our Mujahideen brothers.
We did not learn any lesson during 40 plus years of our independence and became a direction less fighting force through these repeated wars. The politicians were again given chances to serve the country and they did serve it with great purpose. In their short stints they tried to amass as much as possible and shift it to safe banking of EU through the offshore companies. We either sold every Public Enterprise or deregulated it to get maximum share for ourselves. We had mushroom growth of Regulatory bodies where some wizards who were cronies of various politicians were appointed on heavy salaries in management grades so as to regulate the industries. They regulated their own and their masters bank accounts and are still busy doing that.
Our main players during these 63 years were Army, Politicians and Bureaucracy and they always told the people that the most powerful nation on planet America is with them while they are ruling. No body had the courage or resources to verify this fact. Media was confined to newspapers and government could easily buy them through controlled advertisements, print quota, wage board award and Lifafa. No body wanted the common man to be educated enough to understand the politics being played with 90% of the people hence two types of education was kept firmly in place for class system to flourish properly. The people were systematically sub divided into religious sects and factions to keep them at bay and under control. Police was developed to humiliate the common man so that respectable and nobles could be saved in this system and ensure that no common man gets a better job or position of authority. The relations were developed just within the elite classes so that no outsider sneaks into them.
All kinds of social evils were encouraged and spread in the common people to grab more money through drugs, x rated movies, internet cafes, cinema houses and arms. All these businesses were controlled by the people of authority and power and were developed at the cost of poor. Social injustice was ensured and merit was killed in every part and department of the country. Various classes of the society were developed through education and grade system.
All this had to come back one day and bear fruit as well. We have not learnt any lesson so far and we are fighting another war against whom? we don’t know? Is it a war? Is it Jihad? Is it for our Country? Is it for our people? Is it for peace? Is it for our safety?
Through our talent we became the nuclear state but through our indiscipline and stupidity we could not get the respect and honor which we deserved. We thought everybody is our enemy and we are the leaders of world. We never thought about our own people, our own country, our own institutions, our own education system, our own land, our irrigation system, our development as a Nation. The world progressed but we transgressed and now there is big sea in front of us and a huge ditch behind us to engulf us. Can we survive and come out of this situation and become a nice, peace loving, educated and respected player on global stage? We have to decide it quickly otherwise world history is full of so many nations and geographies.

I was born at a remote village in Pakistan called Mandi Bhalwal which is near Sarai Alamgir/Jhelum. I was raised by parents with lots of love and care but with excellent values and discipline.
I started my practical life through a Government job and learnt a lot during my professional years.
I shall be writing on TPS because I have some free time now. I live in beautiful Virginia, USA with my lovely family.
Please do send me your comments, opinions and suggestions.

I think Pakistan on global stage is known as a safe heaven for terrorists. People look at us as terrorists. Pakistanis are checked extensively in European, Australian and American airports. On a global stage we are fast becoming the Afghanistan of pre American invasion. People imagine us as beared, dirty croonies with turban on head and a rocket launcher on shoulders.
Pervez Musharaff go and rot in hell.
The above response is not mine. Someone has used my name to comment by hiding his own identity.Be brave enough to use your own name instead of using stolen identity. I have expressed my feelings and thoughts in my above column but I have no concern what so ever with the above comments.
Thanks
Ok, so Amin what’s the solution?
Mr Rehman i havent stolen anybody’s identity. Its my name and by some strange coincidence it happens to be your name as well.
So take it easy and avoid getting judgemental. Let me make it clear to whomsoever it may concern, comment no 1 is solely my opinion and if anyone thinks its otherwise please feel free to post your comment. I have no problems whatsoever.
Many Thanks.
