Ouch, Where is Lawyers Movement ??
By Gul Raiz • Jul 3rd, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 20 Comments •No Pun Intended perhaps, but seriously where all those black coats and black sheep have gone actually? Even the sources of propaganda channels like GEO and others have stopped bickering about the judges restoration, and we don’t see any more meaningless and bland talk shows full with esoteric legalese just aimed at saving jobs of some judges. It seems that now as the judges have started receiving their salaries, the objectives of the lawyers movement have been achieved.
Aitzaz Ahsan, Munir A. Malik, Ali Ahmad Kurd, Justice Wajih and the likes of them have suddenly vanished in the thin air, and no matter how much effort you put, you won’t find them right now anywhere in the country. Aitzaz Ahsan and Munir A. Malik have perhaps gone to the land of masters for some badly needed refreshers and refreshments, and they are boasting in there as how much justice they have saved in Pakistan.
After the grandiose Long March, which shook the edifice of the parliament, president house and Zardari house, lawyers have done their work, and now they are back to their dens (or were they chambers?) to carry on with their tactful methods of taking dates upon dates of the 40-year long cases, and earning their bread and butter through making a truth a lie, and a lie to truth.
Tell you what why people don’t really put their heart in the lawyers movement, and why people didn’t really come out upon the call of the lawyers? The reason is that most of the population of Pakistan lives in the rural areas, and these people spend most of their time in Thana Kechahri, where they know the ins and outs of the lawyers and the judges and the court system. They know that only money and clout speaks in these places and how justice could be purchased and intimidated out there. They know that lawyers can arrange the verdict in their favour by purchasing the justice and by arranging the false witnesses and much more.
How could majority of people follow such liars and crooks? There are some good lawyers, but their numbers are negligible, and they are out of work before long and sell towels in the Sunday Market anyway, and they have nothing to do with the lawyers movement of Aitzaz Ahsan, who sold the lists of Sikhs to India and gave a hard blow to Pakistan.
This movement was bound to die it’s own death, and now as the steam has released from this makeshift baloney movement, all must move ahead.

“This movement” of “such liars and crooks” “majority of people” “have nothing to do with the lawyers movement of Aitzaz Ahsan - this movement was bound to die it’s own death”
RIP :
Aitzaz Ahsan + Wajih + Kurd + Malik
Interesting !
It should be called the movement of chameleons!
If Aitzaz had any real concern for the people of Pakistan, he would not be spending his holidays here in the USA. He certainly is enjoying the attention from speaking at APNA (Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America) and trying to gather some support here.
I sincerely doubt that any sane person can trust this lawyer bunch!
Absolutely right!
With the good Doctor’s permission, let me just suggest, it never was a movement of “chameleons’ “. It was a movement of just one chameleon, who manipulated the lawyers’ community into identifying with it. In the process the whole judiciary and the system was converted into political football.
You are right APNA is right now feeding him well for pontificating about all the ills of Pakistani ; the real support they can provide him will be to help him settled down over there where APNA is located. Let your “sincere doubts” be proved!
Okay, I stand corrected, we have one chameleon that has tried to fool so many others.
From reading your posts, I can ascertain that you are a lawyer. Please correct me if you I am wrong in my assumption. The reason I say this is also due to the article you shared by Qazi Faes Isa. I do have a lot of respect for Qazi Faes.
I enjoy reading your posts, though many times I do not totally agree with your conclusions.
All the best to you!
I would always call it liars movement. Nice article.
Doctor Sahib, I am glad that you read my posts; it is so nice of you to say that you enjoy them - I am humbled. You do not “totally” agree with me, thank goodness that there are smarter people still around. No, I do not write to convince; I write to intrigue better minds and provoke them into showing me the light in my search for meaning of it all. Yes, indeed, I have been trying to benefit from Qazi Sahib’s “Ilm”, alas there are not many of his kind left among us after Khalid Ishaq (May Allah bless him with His choicest blessings) left us.
No, I am not a “Lier” but have existential interest in the due process of law.
My parents taught me and I learned from them that ethics exists independently of the law. I have never used the law or theocracy or someone else to tell me what is good or evil. Often the judgments made about us are false, however, we are obliged to respect and follow the law and by the values of a society and basic human dignity; my father helped me develop a sense of responsibility and value of self accountability. I learned that the final decision on my conduct must be judged by me when I scrutinize my actions and justify their ethical standing in the light of how I would wish others to behave in my situation. In the process I try to be harsh when judging others conduct (people in public life) and even harsher to myself in how I conduct my business.
Respects!
Aftab, In haste and the late hour here, I should not have asked if you are a lawyer. It is okay, I understand from your silence.
This subject of politics is never ending. I do pray that the people of Pakistan try to make some serious changes in the country. The real issues of the people are being ignored and what we hear and see is all sugar-coated to appease the masses. One can only pray and try to make a change and that change will come, but alas not from this generation of corrupt leaders that are only filling their own pockets.
May God have Mercy on the people of Pakistan.
My sincere respects to you Aftab Sahaab! I appreciate your approach. May God bless your parents for instilling these good values.
We will carry on this discourse at another time. I must get some sleep.
All the best to you!
Lawyers movement is still going on and each thursday iti s seeing on national level near the courts and on international level it is keeping its pace where the lawyers’ leaders are moving.TV anchors like faiza duad ,hamid mir , kashif and Talat are still doing jobs in their limit. I am really sometimes feel very degraded as a Pakistani when our educated people justifies the action of a cruel military dictator’s over the people who are standing on the issues of suprmacy of law. These lawyers are symbol of democractic norms, lawful attitude and secualr forces and had appeared on national level when Pakistani people were being posed on international grounds as terrorist, extremist, fanatics and killers by our ruling mafia. This movement could be ended at the time of mussarf ’s emergency plan when whole state machinery and daily bomb blasts in urban areas were in full swing.Munir was in his death bed, atizaz, kurd and justice tariq were in confinement and lawyers were badly handled on daily basis. In a moment people forgets the hardships of judges and lawyers and try to hide their courage with crimnal attitude of a dictator who is an open ally of US interests in our homeland. This is just a facist mentality .Yes I confess that after 12 june it is gone under low pace but these middle class people need some time and energy to regain their pace as this time those people are coming infront of them who are claiming themselves as champions of democracy. The clash of both forces might bring some strength to dying force of muusarf whose power had become confined to our army house. As the US has become custodian and guard of this army house and its key is given to corrupt characters like zardari and rehamn malik so lawyers are planning for new strategy to show their power of law.
Mr. Aitzaz Ahsan defended Benazir and Zardari in corruption cases in the latter half of the 90s decade and in 2008, he has said that most of these cases were correct. Read the interview with James Traub.
Now the question is, if Mr. Ahsan is a man of principles and is leading a fight to save the country, why did he defend these corrupt politicians against justified corruption charges, certainly not in the interest of the country!
History witnessed him crying at the grave of one of these corrupt politicians on TV. So patriotic of him, eh?
please allow me to comment

Thanks
Good post SAWJ.
Doctor Raza Haider Sahib, you know what is most essential in this experiment of democracy? That we do not stop telling the truth because some ill informed can be lauder. Some people have strength in their vocal chords while the others in their brains. I am sure you are better placed with the later group than the former. You must consistently defend your principles and help the others see the light; after all the truth must prevail and we all will be proud that you were there to join us in this great project. We are privileged to have access to this great “public space” to argue and discuss matters of public interest; a much better place and diverse participation than the limited space of our ‘drawing rooms’.
Ab ghussa chor-den and speak your mind, sir!
SAWJ, there should not be an issue about which lawyer takes the responsibility to defend which accused. Remember, in the eyes of law an accused remains innocent unless proved otherwise and the burden of proof must be carried by the plaintiffs. The problem is Aitzaz Ahsan has violated the rights of his clients; as a lawyer you may not use the information available to you. He was privy to information provided to the lawyer Ahsan in ‘good faith’ by clients M/s. Bhutto & Zardari; here is a breach of ‘privileged conversation’ - talk about principles and relate it to a “pricipled man” Aitzaz Ahsan! By committing this violance alone he has irreparably damaged the standing of his profession and erroded the normal TRUST an accused should and normally has in his lawyer. The lawyers should recognize this assault on their reputation and its perpetrator; they are depending on a “Rahzan” (thug) in the guise of a “Rahbar” (guide) for their journey.
I don’t think that the lawyers have run away, this lull is necessary and they will charge back with
Dr. Raza, you should be commenting, and your’s is one more color to this great rainbow of opinions.
it will be better if they actually run away!! who needs them when we all know every person is corrupt within the judiciary anyway!
correction - every *other person…
The whole movement was due to die soon after the elections anyways, these poor middle class people kept getting fooled by the corrupt politicians and once they came into power they dont have use for this movement any more.
Ms Nazia, ppl like you will never learn. This dictator you talk about gave you a free media, gave you a decent economy which till 2 yrs ago was considered one of the fastest growing by World bank and IMF. Since this stupid lawyers movement was started the economy has gone to shit.
Sare lawyers bikay hua hain, its just that everyone has a different price.
