Operation Sirat-e-Mustaqeem
By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • Jul 8th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • (3,641 views) • No ResponsesAfter a week long operation Sirat-e-Mustaqeem in the Khyber Agency and the suburbs of Peshawar, what we have got in our hands is a suicide attack in the center of the Islamabad and political administration of Khyber Agency subduing in front of the Lashkar-e-Islam chief Mangal Bagh that curfew be lifted from the Bara and the release of the hundred militants caught during the operation.
The earning from the recent operation in the Khyber Agency consists of these detained militants which are about to be released and the debris of of three dozen houses and offices of the militant outfits. The price paid is heavy both in terms of life and the resources, if we include the 21 causalities of Islamabad blast.
PPP government has already puked and it showed it’s first weakness when it handed over all the tough decision to the chief of army staff regarding the war on terror, and then the way they are briefing Richard Boucher, the US Assistant Secretary of State and the American Ambassador Anne W. Patterson about their works in the FATA and elsewhere tells the story of our fake sovereignty.
Whether the aim of Operation Sirat-e-Mustaqeem was to secure Peshawar from Taliban, or it’s aim was to break the force of militants or was it simply an act of strengthening the credentials of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani before he starts his maiden visit to the United States later this month, the results are zilch and the this only reminded the nation the tumultuous days of PML-Q.
PPP needs to understand that FATA issue is not a regional or short-time issue, rather it’s an issue of national importance and one of the biggest threats to the survival of the country. Rehman Malik is too small a pawn to put forward in this game from our side. Men of integrity and resolve are needed.
