Ogling Mirrors for Drivers in Public Transport : Menace for Pakistani Girls

These mirrors are not there to watch any sideways or back traffic, but just to ogle at the girls and women from different angles by the driver.
As by some weird and unknown logic, the front portion of all the public transports are allocated for the female, drivers manage to arrange mirrors to please their hungry and lascivious eyes from all the sides they could afford. They squeeze in reflecting mirrors on their left, right, front and on the top and even at the far ends of the vehicle to get every kind of view possible.
While driving vehicle, most of the time they look inside at the mirrors instead of looking on the road ahead. They not only watch, they also wink, smile and make strange faces at the girls. Sometimes, they board any one of their friend on the same seat, and he enjoys the spectacle too. Nobody takes the notice of it, and I guess there is no law against these extra mirrors.
How much embarrassment, unease and pain these mirrors cause to the girls cannot be explained in words.

Not only ogle…some other events also happens in these Public transport. Really it is very painful for ladies to travel in these public buses.

There is no law against mirrors at present , but there is nothing stopping the mayor in passing a by-law banning such add ons; start a petition and present it to the mayor.
In the mean time if there are any real men out there maybe they should teach a few of these ogler’s a lesson .

Now this explains the high rate of vehicular accidents in Pakistan.
Bottom line is that Pakistani men have very high testosterone levels (even the new president of Pakistan showed this behavior in action on his recent visit to the US). The Pakistani women should be happy, that at least the Pakistani men are not impotent!

A question does come into my mind. Do we see less vehicular accidents during Ramadan in Pakistan? If not, then that says a lot about the sincerity of fasting and understanding of Ramadan in Pakistan.

High in testosterone and low in gray matter makes them potent but imbecile, which explains their behavior in general. The Pakistani women can’t have much to be happy about as all this ‘high potency’ is wasted in pursuits of happiness anywhere but home and dealing with an imbecile is a pain in the neck anyways.

Even in India though there are no mirrors, the drivers become little HERIOC and call themselves Pilot and behave in little coquettish way with ugly double meaning comments and loud music etc.But our women just ignore them because most of the drivers are coming from RURAL background while the women who go for work are middleclass and so these drivers think any woman with cut hair or who wear jeans ar somesort of mallika sherawats.
But as long as this has no physical contact Indian women have learnt to ignore.

WOMEN in Pakistan live in a state of perpetual fear. This raises questions about the rights of women especially in a country where they face violence, which often proves fatal, on a daily basis. And yet, so deeply entrenched are the medieval customs and values which allow such abuse that the violation of women’s rights is hardly considered an aberration in Pakistan. Incidents such as the ones reported in this paper on Saturday — ‘honour killing’ and domestic abuse that involved throwing acid on a woman’s body — are common and thus do not make headlines in the local press as they would in most parts of the civilised world. Clearly, media reminders are not enough. We have come to accept the way women are abused through tribal customs which kill women in the name of ‘honour’, for marrying men of their choice, and even jirga-sanctioned rape.
Crimes against women perpetuate a form of social organisation in which the male is all-powerful. Pakistan may be a patriarchal society but women comprise half the population. Thus the empowerment of women would mean strengthening the position of this significant percentage of the population — surely the welfare of such a large proportion of society cannot be ignored. So, what measures have been taken for the empowerment of women? The fact that our assemblies have a large number of women legislators than previously is indicative of change — but one which is favourable to women from the elite. Certainly this is a step forward from the times when the number of women parliamentarians was negligible. However, the fact is that the poor and destitute remain in the clutches of vicious traditions and only change at the grassroots level can rescue them from their predicament.
Government laws and actions must override social customs. Implementing legislation which makes violence against women in all its manifestations a criminal offence is an imperative measure. The Women’s Protection Act 2006 came into being with the aim of amending the Hudood Ordinance laws and improving the prospects of successfully prosecuting rape. However the problem arises at the stage of implementation. The government must ensure that police at the district level take notice of these cases — most of which go undetected — and bring the offenders to justice. Owing to a culture of corruption and gender bias, the police approach often works in favour of the man. Punishment and deterrence are key elements of the solution. If offenders are given adequate punishment it will dissuade others from committing the same crime. On the other hand, victims should be given full support instead of being ostracised. The government in collaboration with non-governmental organisations can ensure that the rights of women are protected and the laws implemented.
