New Opportunity For America

The United States of America, the sole super power in the world is correctly sensing a new opportunity in the new change in Pakistan. It’s trying it’s best to dispel the image that America wants to dictate it’s term to the new Pakistan Democratic Alliance government.

To put this message more firmly across, the foreign office of United States has arranged briefings for the newly elected political leadership. This is a new precedence, as prior to this only the top army brass was given the briefings.

America is trying to build up confidence among the elected members and she has started this by briefing Asif Ali Zardari at the residence of US Deputy Chief of Mission Peter Bodde by the US ambassador and other senior officials. Similar briefings have been arranged for the leadership of PML-N and ANP, though Nawaz Sharif is sending Ishaq Dar in his place.

If these briefings are really aimed at clearing the air about American intentions then they are welcome sign, but if they are just yet another eyewash then it would be a wastage of time and resources. Assistant Secretary Richard Boucher, who looks after South Asian affairs at the State Department, is hell bent on air strikes in Pakistani areas while some other officials want a policy change in it.

Pakistan should tell US loud and clear that it will not tolerate any air strikes in its areas by anyone.
