Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan not standing-by the lawyers
By Asim H. Akhund • Jun 9th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 20 Comments •So far the news circulating is that Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan would not be part of the long march. Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan’s absence from the long march at this crucial stage only reflects that they were not, in essence, committed to the cause of restoration of judiciary to Pre 3 Nov position. They stood by lawyers’ movement only for their political gains.
Now that Shahbaz Sharif is already the Chief Minister of Punjab, Nawaz obviously would not need and want to unnecessarily disrupt the momentum towards their coming back in the government with full representation of the Sharif family. It would not be surprising to suggest and later see Sharif brothers taking much softer approach towards the judiciary issue in later days. Perhaps all the deliberations between PMLN and PPP on issue of restoration were hoax to the nation and in reality a power struggle or adjustment between Asif and Sharifs, as to letting the Sharifs contest and win back their seats in the bye-elections.
For Imran Khan, he has already boycotted the elections and he does not see any benefit to his political career, presently, through this long march. So why not chill in his second home in London rather than be part of an unnecessary and unwanted exercise.
This makes Zardari slightly better than Imran and Nawaz, at least he clearly says that he is not very keen on restoration of the judiciary, it is the wish of his coalition partners and that why he is pursuing it.

billia thailay say baher agaee.
No sincere and patriotic Pakistani should be part of this, as you have correctly called, “part of an unnecessary and unwanted exercise.” This is nothing but just another attempt by the enemies of Pakistan and Pakistani people to disrupt and destroy our country and nationhood.
Calling Asif Zaradri and his honest stand “slightly better than Imran and Nawaz” is a gross understatement.
I agree with Dr. Raza Haider and very glad that finally the cat is out of the bag, a bit belated but still it did.
The best thing for all those Musharraf bashers will be now to keep themselves busy with such topics as :
- Mobile Phone Sex with Girls Mania in Pakistan
- Kala Jadoo in Pakistan and Jinn
- (Follow) Mohammad Asif (and get) Arrested in Dubai for Drugs (Opium) Possession
I’ll be very surprise if anyone is ’shocked’ regarding the attitude of these so-called leaders. Both have benefited from the judiciary issue for their political gains. I will nominate both of them ‘Hypocrites of the Year’ award.
Imran will be back today to join Longmarch.
@ Kheshgi - Can you please mention just ONE benefit or Political gain that Imran Khan received out of his support for a free judiciary. He is the only politician in pakistan’s history who worked for the people of pakistan and spend his own money first before asking people to participate in his noble cause. And keep in mind, Imran has neither charges of corruption nor of killing innocent people. Do you have any other example of politician from any other party with the similar profile?
Look, Choudhary Sahib/a, there is no two opinions about Imran’s great great services and his atruism; his demand for a just and fair system is also a principled one and much older than this ‘Tamasha’. Only, problem is that he has chosen wrong allies for this right cause; how can you even expect those, PML- Nawaz group its leader and its cohorts, to be sincere in supporting a free judiciary who themselves had contempted the Supreme Court and its then Chief Justice Syed Sajjad Ali Shah on the November 28, 1997. Imran has lead himself be blinded by his hatred for some of his political opponents, including the President of Pakistan - President Pervaiz Musharraf. You will agree that personal hatred should not be and must be basis for politics and anything based on hatred can only last until this boomrangs on yourself. When you choose such a route, people start questioning sincerity of your cause and strength of your conviction.
To Choudhary - I have no issues with Imran Khan’s charitable or social work. I have donated to his cancer hospital and a great fan of his cricket skills. At the same time, I have to say that as a politician he is a total failure. He is siding with crooks like Sharif Brothers who hired private investigators to throw mud at him by bringing up Sita White issue because they considered him as a threat in Lahore politics.
He definitely capitalized on the judicial issue. What was his standing in the politics prior to March, 2007? A party in existence for over ten years and couldn’t even win more than a single seat? where is the grass roots support? Along with judicial issue, he started playing hatred card by bashing Altaf Hussain & MQM which happens to be very popular in Punjab and won him some supporters.
He should be thankful to Musharraf for allowing private channels which provided him a forum to project himself. Which other party or leader with a single seat has been given so much media coverage? His overall popularity can be judged by the total rejection from the masses for his call to boycott the elections but the amount of coverage given to him by the biased media is keeping him alive in the politics.
morally sick with all social evil that may exist is the quality of respective so called leader..in recent years there is a new wave of patriotic exibitionism among our class of people who belong to a community that are dancers ,singers, and models ,that they have started a new static platform of earning that may benefit them in upcoming days of ill treatment ,when people will discard their capacities.this is through making of schools /hospitals/and similar siblingsof discipline..check out ,shezad roy,and many as such
Target ——>>>> PML-N Only.
PMLN is the biggest threat for few opportunist parties. They tries to remind again and again one event of 1997 but forgets how Mushi crushed each and every depratement and institution of Pakistan. For that one event, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif himself went to Supreme Court and did excuse for all… But just see level of Hypocracy… Supporters of Mushi are even not willing to say ” Haan Mushi nay bhee Zulum Kia hai”…how we can expect a word of excuse from Mushi on events like Lal Masjid, Judiciary crisis, Double martial Law, Killing all over Pakistan, Bomb Attacks, Missing Persons, Steel Mills issue, Basant Killings, Electricity crisis etc etc.
Chalo bhai Nawaz Sharif nay Mafi to Mangi thee na… ussay to endorse ker do. Kisi aur nay yeh kaam kia hai history of Pakistan main.?????

Following is for Saleem Khan’ benefit and also for those who have been influnced by his and others’ false propaganda about their beloved but “stupid” leader. FIRST a few words, by way of an obituary, regarding the dolt (no other description fits him) (a dolt is : A STUPID PERSON / SOME ONE WHO IS NOT VERY BRIGHT) who took a step too far and who had not the wit to understand that it is only so much incompetent audacity the furies can stand.
There could not be a sadder commentary on the Pakistani ethos than that a person such as Nawaz Sharif, with his limited ability and unbounded greed for money and power, should have risen to the highest position in the land. In few other democratic dispensations would this have happened?
The army’s hand was forced. If it had not done what it did it would have stood condemned before the bar of history. The Sharifs were wanting to do to the army what it had done to the Supreme Court: sow the seeds of dissension in its higher echelons so as to render it ineffective as a check on their ambitions. Had the Sharifs succeeded in their designs they would have had two Rana Maqbools in their service: one as the IGP Sindh and the other, in the form of Lt Gen Khawaja Ziauddin, as head of the army.

Here is some more stuff from the “beloved Ayaz Amir” of Saleem Khan and many others here. Of course this is also writeen about another “darling” then a PM of Pakistan on Septem 14, 1999 in DAWN. After reading it send it to that stupid Jamshed Kiyani the poisnous hater of President Musharraf. Either this idiot was so incompetent that he did not know what was going on or he is a compulsive liar and his interview was a premeditated assault on people’s intelligence.
The country deserves a fresh start

It is hardly a secret any more that at a briefing in late October/early November last year various options for pepping up the freedom struggle in occupied Kashmir were presented by the top army leadership to the prime minister. Amongst these options was a proposal to exploit a wide gap which existed in the Indian defence line in the Kargil sector.
There was nothing new about this idea. As part of the army’s contingency planning (it being the business of armies to plan for the future), it had been on the cards since the mid-eighties. Whatever the justifications advanced for this particular option (one of these being that inactivity on our part could encourage India to do another Siachen on us), the long and the short of it is that it was broadly accepted, the prime minister giving his concurrence to it. Had he not done so this plan would have been stillborn.
Arguably, the top army leadership (and in this context the adjective ‘top’ is of special significance) should have proposed nothing of the kind. The army has always fancied itself as the conscience and brains of the nation. Conscience, fine, but where were its brains when a forward thrust in Kargil was being outlined for the prime minister’s benefit? This was the top army leadership’s blunder, compounded, of course, by the circumstance that most of the formation commanders were kept in the dark. At the time they had no inkling of what was about to be done in the army’s name.
As for the Prime Minister, not only did he hear the scheme out and approve it, he went a step further and, ever a man in a hurry, said its time-frame should be compressed. It has been suggested in the Prime Minister’s defence that he did not fully understand the implications of what was being discussed. Perhaps but then he has no business being where he is.
Jamshed Kiyani was not stupid and was favourite of Aftab till he not exploded directly on Media. It shows that who ever will try to tell truth. This great argumentor AFTAB will be after him and calling him Stupid, Idiot etc etc. He is the man who said…ARMY is great… ARMY is great since first day. Today Majority of Army generals when started telling truth…he started to comment against them too.
Now expect AFTAB reply that no no…I supports Serving Army… and tomorrow when serving General Kiyani will kick his Boot on the Ass of Mushi to throw him out of Army House…then they will say…No No No…Rest are fine…This serving General is Stupid, Idiot.
Mr Aftab, AOM have no limits. They molds themselves as per atmosphere and gets against those..whom they supported lot. Its called MUNAFIQAT. They are Munifiq and I have no harm/fear to call then MUNAFIQ.

Saleem Khan, you are a liar. I dare you to quote my words in favour of Jamshed Kiyani. Yes, indeed I do support the Pakistani military, because it is my military raised and trained by my country to defend my people at our cost. Yes, I do salute our soldiers (jawans and officers alike). Yes, I am grateful to them for their sacrifices and their willingness to die for our country.
But, yes I do condemn those retired offiecers who want to use our people and our country to start their own stupid mission. I don’t have any reservations in saying that these people want to destroy all the state institutions and totally erode people’s trust in parliament or any other formal governmental structure, thus creating total chaos in the land and then create a crisis of conflict between the people of Pakistan and its military, a civil war like situation. They are our enemies and we must recognize them as such. They are crazy believers in creation of an Islamic Caliphate or United States of Islam, it will just happen, only their this dangerous experiment will destroy millions of Pakistani lives and destroy the country our country Pakistan.

Saleem Khan, enjoy some more about your “darling” politician written by your favourite author Ayaz Amir in DAWN on September 10the. 1999 (You can be comfortable with the fact that the “evil man” Pakistan’s President Musharraf was not the one who influenced Ayaz Amir at that time). SEND IT TO ENLIGHTEN THAT DEGENERATED LIAR BY THE NAME JAMSHED GULZAR KIYANI a disgrace for the rank and the army he was in.
Out of breath already

NAWAZ SHARIF is not the victim of evil circumstances. To think so would be to flatter him. He is the author of his own misfortunes, the dangers threatening to overwhelm his government being the direct outcome of his personal failings.
Which other prime minister would have handled Kargil the way he did? Which other prime minister would have first given the okay to this expedition, without of course realizing what he was getting into, and then made such a hash of the follow-up retreat? Which other prime minister would have brought so much gratuitous humiliation to the nation? Which other prime minister would have sent Ghous Ali Shah and, of all policemen, Rana Maqbool to Sindh?
In Last…AWARD GOES TO AFTAB S. ALAM…… Clapping…..:)
Please don’t get angry dear. I don’t want to drag Ayaz Mir any more. I like him till he will remain unbiased. If he wrote this then I must appreciate PMLN leadership also that they issued him party Ticket. Has ever other parties did this in past?
Anyway leave it. If you are happy, then I’m also happy.
Good day to you all
Farid Masood, stop pretending to be the wise man; I know there is no war being fought. I do not consider you qualified to interfere with your sense of wisdom. For your benefit here is what Salim Khan was “commenting” (I have no claim to “expertise” of everything under the sun, like you) however was “comenting on comment”

Mr Aftab, come out of darkness. behave and comment like human being…not like evil.
Suppose…only one person or girl killed inside…will you say then it was fine???? Come on. How you can prove this killing right if it was less than 1000 or 500. Just come on and comment. try to bring one new twist and prove that Mushi was right.
Please consult Holy Quran and Ahdeedh and then comment. Don’t try to be God yourself. You are not God. How you can make excuses for killing innocent girls. Were they going to fly…if you would not kill them??? Answer me. Don’t make me angry. I’m already tolerating you idiots a lot on this issue specially.

The PPP and the PML-Worth Reading.
By Dr Farrukh Saleem (The News)
Pakistan is on fire. Our two firemen, Sharif and Zardari, are, however, busy arguing about the Phoenix Mars Lander spacecraft. Who then is going to put the fire out? These may be my words but are the very thoughts of a credit analyst at Standard & Poor’s Rating Service in Singapore. Musharraf is also on fire. Neither the PPP nor the PML can work with him. The PPP wants to ease Musharraf out while the PML wants to push Musharraf out. The army prefers an ease-out, and so does Uncle Sam. Sharif is driven by rage, Zardari by realpolitik. Sharif carries a sword, Zardari his realism. If Sharif had formed the government he would have done what Zardari is doing.
We are an honour-rage driven society where sword is sharper than realism. Living by the sword is more ‘honourable’ than living by realism. We boo at whoever says he is willing to ‘work with Musharraf’, and we cheer when we hear that Musharraf is a ‘relic of the past’.
In Pakistan, de facto power belongs to the person who wears the uniform of the chief of army staff. Musharraf has accumulated a lot of de jure powers but none of these can be exercised without the consent of the de facto power yielder. Musharraf’s de facto power left him on November 28 and now it is in the interest of both the PPP and the PML to snatch Musharraf’s de jure powers away from him. In essence, Musharraf would be able to deliver nothing; neither to the Americans nor to anyone else (is that why the MQM and the PML-Q have also abandoned Musharraf?). For someone who has yielded absolute power for eight long years, Musharraf should now be completely divorced from reality — and that’s only human. As a consequence, Musharraf’s fate — including his resignation — is no longer in his own hands. All his decisions, from now on, shall be made for him not by him. The de facto power holder shall decide Musharraf’s time as well as his mode of departure.
The box that Musharraf has boxed himself in is getting tighter by the hour. June 10 is a mere 216 hours away, and the PML provincial government is in league with the lawyers to besiege the Army House. Packing within the Army House is, therefore, in full swing. PPP cards, in the meanwhile, are about to be exposed — in terms of how they treat the lawyers in Islamabad.
Whether the PPP and the PML realize it or not, Pakistan will be the same never again. And, that is so because of the development of two other power centres — the media and civil society. Executive dictatorship will be tolerated no more. And, that is so because of the development of two other power centres — the media and civil society.
The media and civil society are aiming at reforming the Pakistani state and society. The problem with every reformist agenda, however, is that there are potential gainers and potential losers. And, as long as potential losers of a reformist agenda are also the decision makers the reformist agenda cannot go through.
For 60 long years, Pakistanis, like a billion other Muslims around the globe, suffered under a long chain of executive dictatorships. A hundred and sixty million Pakistanis lorded over by a civilian or a military dictator whereby the judiciary remained a mere extension of the executive branch along with a rubberstamp parliament. Then came March 9; a judge stood up and said ‘no’. That doesn’t happen in Muslim-majority states. That ‘no’ has been contagious — a virus (perhaps the first virus that would be named after a chief justice). Pakistan will be the same never again — and hopefully a billion other Muslims would derive their own lessons from Pakistan’s ‘no’.
To be certain, Pakistani elite has always considered itself above the law. There exists a powerful domestic elite that has been benefiting from its direct access to executive dictators. This elite is now pitched against an informed lawyers-led civil society — courtesy of the electronic media. In essence, at the root of whatever is wrong with Pakistan is lack of justice.
Whether the PPP and the PML realize it or not, Pakistan is being transformed. March 9 was a landmark and February 18 was another one. As far as the Islamic world is concerned, it is history in the making — power is changing hands through the power of the ballot box and not the sword.
What would the lawyers do once they get the judges restored? My man with ideas has one for the lawyers: Organize to hold power accountable. That will be another first not just in Pakistan but all through the Muslim world.
