Nawab Aslam Raisani and Hoti Think Alike

(r) Junaid Zaman • Apr 10th, 2008 • Category: Politics • (2,071 views) • 2 CommentsBalochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani and NWFP’s Chief Minister Amir Haider Hoti both have shown their resolve to solve the law and order situation through dialogue and not through the use of brute force, and that is extremely welcome sign.
The thing is that the people fighting in the mountains of South/North Waziristan and in Balochistan are not terrorists or saboteurs, rather they are angry people for different reasons and they have been made more angry by the continuous military operations by the Pakistani forces and by the strikes of NATO forces.
The real reconciliation is needed where it is hurting most and that are the restive areas of NWFP and Balochistan and Nawab Aslam Raisani is right when he says, “If we can talk with Indians or Jews then why should we hesitate to initiate negotiations with militants in Balochistan. We don’t agree with the elements who call fighters struggling for their rights in other areas mujahideen or hurriyat pasand but dub the fighters in Balochistan as traitors or terrorists.”

It certainly is a step in the right direction; welfare of the people through dialogue and negotiation should be the only option for those who govern.
