Musharraf’s Resignation Riddle
By Sameer Shaharyar • Aug 18th, 2008 • Category: Politics • One ResponseFor the last one week, we have been watching “breaking news” on every private T.V channel that the next 48 hours would be very crucial and decisive in regard of the resignation of General (r) Pervez Musharraf and then the next day, the same slide runs with the same words and some flashing colors.
Daily, President General (r) Musharraf discusses the matter at hand with his clique and close aides, while daily Presidential palace denies any news of Musharraf’s escape, while daily it is reported in the media that Musharraf decided to quit, and only he is asking for many concrete assurances, just like National Reconciliation Ordinance.
This coalition government has developed a knack of testing the fragile nerves of the hapless people, who voted them in not so long ago. Especially Pakistan People’s Party has shown this new tacit tenet of delaying the matters till they start reeking. All kinds of marathons are in the show case in the process of impeaching Musharraf, and the elusive charge sheet which is being prepared for the last one week is still no where to be seen, yet there is every kind of specie telling the finer points of the sheet to the people through various channels. Another funny thing which has surfaced is that actually there is no charge sheet, and it’s just a delaying tactic by the PPP.
People won’t tolerate this shenanigan because they just to see Musharraf lost, and lost in a jiffy.
