Mullen Twisting Arms

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen has once again come running to Pakistan while sprouting flames from his nostrils, and he is about to meet Prime Minister (Yousuf Raza) Gilani and General (Ashfaq) Kayani to discuss ongoing operations in the border region with Afghanistan.

The tension is running high in the tribal region in the wake of American aerial and ground attacks in which many civilian have died and little has been achieved in curbing the militancy or terrorism, and it has only added to the anger and hatred against the US operations in the FATA, and that has surely created many problems and made the matters more complicated and this would ultimately lead to the chaos, which is not in the interest of anybody.

The protests by the Pakistani political leaders are meek and lame in regard of defense against violations of its air space and incursions by US forces in Afghanistan though the response of COAS is befitting. Surprisingly France and Germany have also given their disapproval over the recent aggression of US, while UK is backing the attacks. Zardari is also in England, but he has achieved little in his pleadings.

Does such thing happen in any other country, in which a newly elected president just leave the country after four days of taking oath and go on to a private visit, when war is being fought at one border and country is drowning under myriad number of problems, and when people like Mullen are there to muscle their way through the sovereignty of the country?

Even the top cop and the man who is running interior affairs, the Rehman Malik is in London.
