MQM Against GEO and ARY One World
By Fatima Tassaduq • Nov 19th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 23 Comments •All hell broke loose on media yesterday, when the MQM pressurized the cable operators to suspend the distribution of licensed channels “Geo News” and “ARY One World” on November 17, on cable TV networks in Karachi and some areas of the interior Sindh. Pakistan People’s Party has warned its difficult and tough ally in Sindh to not to repeat the Draconian measures again, as it’s not Pervez Musharraf who is incharge, and now the reigns of the government are in the hands of political people.
Transmission of Geo New was blocked in most parts of the Karachi and several other cities across Sindh on last Monday. Transmission was also stopped in several other cities of Sindh including Hyderabad, Sukkur and Mirpurkhas. Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri said she was unaware of the closure adding the action has not been taken by the People’s Party government, and the ally has been warned through the proper channels. Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) denied any role in the closure and said it is holding an inquiry.
Both GEO and ARY One World touched the rising killings of workers of Sunni Tehrik in Karachi, which is largely believed to be done by MQM. Though both channels didn’t mention the name of MQM, but it was enough to irk the Pir of London Sharif.

Please identify the source of your information. I have not seen any story in a credible newspaper or channel claiming that MQM did it? did Geo or ARY blamed MQM? is there any evidence that MQM was responsible? …. is MQM blamed for cable in diruption in Lahore too?

Some things are so obvious that they dont need any explaination, for me MQM is the biggest terrorist outfit in Paksitan (unfortunately they have also gained some political power thanks to their mighty threat to destabilize the most important city of Pakistan) unluckily for Karachiites it is very powerful over there and luckily for the rest of Pakistan it hasn’t managed to sneak through
In geo it has been indirectly claimed by some anchors and even sherry rehman accepted that strong political group in karachi and hyderabad was behind the shut down of those transmission.I dont know that why mqm is proving again and again that they are not responsible of all wrong doings in karachi.If they are right then arrest the culprits.When ever they were asked to catch the criminals on the serious incidents they started wailing like pinheaded women that its them who are mostly effected by lawlessness in sind and all are making conspiricies against them.Why this time center had interfered and sent rangers to cable operators for their security?Where were provincial actions and provincial machinery for handling this situation in their controlled area?
Actually mqm people are as usual following their gangster attitude and still want to carry on pressure on zardari group that they are all in all in their areas and accept no new god father from this group.Since the govt is formed they are desperate of acquiring top seats in all areas where they can reach.How they removed shoib suddle from seat and wiped off serious land scandals from the scene is showing their mafia like temperament that they in no way is allowing sindhi group to dominant them in their areas.
Kashif and Nazia - Please give me facts. Did GEO or ARY blamed MQM for disruption? Is there any evidence that MQM caused it? Why you are not talking about cable disruption in Lahore?
Just using JI/IK type of propaganda to label the elected representatives of urban Sind as terrorists and gangsters is only showing your hatred and biased mentality.

go to streets of karachi and find any dumb deaf and blind beggar and ask him that who can block the transmission of tv channels in karachi or who can demand bhatta from business community there or you can also ask him that who could have started riots on 12 may and more you can ask that where were writ of govt on 27 dec when well equipped gangs were emerged on roads, looted public fired public property with special chemicals and no body was there in one of big industrial city.
I am sure that his answer was that only and only mqm.
Civilized people living in karachi is afraid of targeting mqm men directly as all are aware of its consequences.If you dont believe us then go to any office of edhi center that is internationally recognized for its social services and they would tell you horrors and threats of mqm as they are being hit on daily basis by mqm terrorist wing.

@ M.A. Sajjad and @ Nazia - Just like the author, instead of providing credible facts or evidence, you are hiding behind emotional burst and your spread of hatred based on go to this and go to that … give me the hard facts. My family and in-laws are living in Karachi over thirty years, they never said that MQM blocked it, so what does that prove? not much in my mind because like a rational person I believe in credible facts and evidence as well as innocent till proven guilty.
All I am asking is did GEO or ARY claimed that MQM blocked the transmission? Who blocked it in Lahore? Is there any credible newspaper or channel reporting that MQM did it?
……. and I still don’t have the answers.

No offence ment, but i also have relatives and friends in karachi , who tell me that they only vote for mqm, because if mqm is in government they would stop their terror activities, as it would embrass their own govt. and there might be peace in karachi, i have been to karachi business/personal trips, everybody likes mustafa kamal and i have yet to meet a person who likes Altaf hussain/MQM
as far as the facts are concerned, ojhri camp blast gen zia’s plane crash, benazir ’s killing these were very high profile incidents, we are yet to learn facts about them, so you can imagine about the rest of the small incidents like the one above mentioned,
Now the point is why is MQM being blamed ? the logical way to point out a suspect is to single out who would the be the benificiary after an incident, if you want facts try exploring them yourself, unless some very strong evidence forces you to think otherwise

I think anyone not accepting MQM as a reality and the only representative of Karachi’s massive population is living in fool’s paradise.
We (even as a punjabi) living in Karachi for so long acknowlegdes MQM as a very strong political force and I must mention here especially the Haq Parast local govt. who is serving Karachi at every corner of the city without any discrimination.
Hats off to Mustafa Kamal and MQM for the efforts in transforming Karachi a real International City. I don’t know why my brothers (Punjabis) are jealous of the progress and development of Karachi.
Produce sincere and dedicated peple like Mustafa Kamal and you will see the change in Lahore, Pindi, Faisalabd and Multan OR vote MQM in next election and then you will see how they will change the destiny of your cities.

If mqm is controlling cable operators in karachi then we have another gangy character of military mafia is salman taseer in Lahore and how he is reacting on media like his leader musharf is an open picture to all Paksitanis.His threatening and hostile attitude is remembering us era of musharf. as mqm is repeating its bully scene in karachi time by time.So I wish that for sake and security of karachi people that mqm people will get the ministries of their choices from their new brother NRO zardari a spill of mussharf during his last time,other wise people should be ready to see the repeat transmissions of 12 may and 27 dec.No problem the train of minsters would be long and long but really we dont want to see the blood bath of our people that has been now become routine of mqm culture.

By the way, I read another version on the net (not a credible version and no evidence) that there are pathan cable operators in Karachi who may be upset with Hamid Mir (GEO) regarding Maulana F. Rahman scandal.
Again, I believe that we have no right to name names till we have the facts or credible evidence to support it.
Salam to the people and their descendant who struggeld, made sacrifices and built Pakistan.
These people are still working hard and giving sacrifices for better Pakistan. You are requested to analyse the situation with facts and figures. See if MQM elected members can change the face of Karachi just in few years it means they are quite capable and have real potential to do any thing. So every one irrespective of province affiliation should thing again and again before blaming any other as it reflects imaturity and highlits hateness for these good people. Please propagate the good things of MQM and appreciate them for thier efforts. We are proud of descendant of creators of Pakistan. May ALLAH give more courage and more power to MQM to do good things for the deprive people of karachi and pakistan.
