Media / Army / Laal Masjid
By Dr Razahaider • May 20th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 6 Comments •Media plays a vital role in all day to day activities what so ever and where ever, whether personal issues or related to any affecting or reflecting public or government matters and of course forecasting, internal and external issues.
It is appreciating that present trend and policies of media, to aware people with regard to ever changing scenario and to exercise true picture among people, has in reality changed the concept and belief, specially, in country like our, and has in turn, gave media, a reputable position qualifying and maintaining its integrity and worth, as a spokesman of people of Pakistan.
BUT
this award, as a spokesman should not be in a manner that can create problems and soreness within the community.
Well it’s only my opinion and I think, the role of media should be to educate people and quantify their queries with regard to expected or suspected outcome.
Why is it that, gradually, media is taking it self as a, conveyer and translator to what has been dictated or said, in a speech.I repeat, it’s my feel, after having a continuous watch on television, newspaper and other network as well, like news, tubsray, talk’s shows, letter to the editor and etceteras.
I think media should understand that, it is their duty to convey any thing on air with contest to any one, in an interpreted and integrated form rather to quote the phrases in a manner that has been delivered or quoted.
By this ,I do not mean that it should not quote the original speech or truth but it is their duty that they should realize the facts that 90% of population are under qualified , ill educated/ illiterates and are dependent on medias attitude and way of expression and of course medias assessment regarding the issue.
Simply reporting a matter on air without realizing future upcoming impact and without foreseeing resultant outcome can be very exciting to the critics and town taletellers but this truth can create a fatal outcome in a community which can be more drastic and eventful and it should be the priority and professional liability of such an important constituent and perhaps pillar, of nation.
Well we can understand the craze to excel and become the first to report in situations but this craze should always precede your national priorities and your ethical turnout. It is true, that majority do plays a role in exercising the marketing of subject channel but countries are monitored and governed by intellects, and media should realize that this negative or potentially vacant role is duly recognized and marked out by these intellects and think tanks.
With reference to one advertisement in an Urdu news paper, regarding a tub Sara program/talk show and question to be put on air at that time, I was really surprised and shocked to asses that the intention to ask such question and comments in lieu of assessment, to be put on air, was clearly reflecting an un towards and minimally concerned role and attitude and sense of unbecoming with the ultimate outcome.
I think media should quantitatively and qualitatively assess her self to chalk out their exact role with reference to the community and its importance, as I have mentioned above, in managing the social religious political and administrative capacities and issues.
It is very exciting and entertaining, to see people sitting together in a show, with different related and known personalities and putting questionnaire and getting out some sweet and sour reservations from them. But, is it something which comes under the heading of entertainment or Gupshup or Umer Sharif Show?
Is it a part of inquiry being held, and the question being put, are from the president of the inquiry committee?
What else can we get from it, if we know that “Who was in Laal masjid, why agreement could not be fulfilled why Molvi rasheed could not give up and abandoned?
Is government right or wrong?
Do media really thinks, to chalk or dig out what happened their?
Do they really think that it is right time to dig out these assumption and float it in public or they just want people to discuss the issue with their reference, that it was being first pointed out and floated on air by XYZ channel for the first time so that they may be credited with generous rewards, as top most?
With due regards, I in my personnel capacity assure them, they are the topmost channels and I adore them in my personal capacity.
There is no doubt about their topmost position, who ever it may be.
But ,with their such a tremendous and important ranking ,they ought to equalize rather prefix the same share of responsibility in a more mature and protective manner and help resolve the situations by briefs and interpretation and in a intellect way, and not just ,by calling and floating interviews of persons with no standing and restricted and constipated /narrowed views, but by introducing intelligent ,worthy ,responsible ,well educated and experts in field, to execute and manage disturb and emotional community.
We all have seen what had happened in Laal masjid?
We have seen their profile with reference to their previous activities as kidnapping, we have seen their role to shield human for their personnel favors, their ways of engagement to retaliate army, and death of so many unjustified people because of their unrevealed conceptions and perceptions.
I think we should not discuss this issue any further, rather should suggest future strategic plan and proposal ,to hold such another new Laal masjid /madras a in future .
We should stop criticizing on the issues and should established future blueprints to get our self far away from what has been done today.
I again emphasis that more of the population in Pakistan is illiterate and emotional and it wont be justified if media could not exercise and use its abilities to counter peoples emotions and fanaticism.Well in the end I would say that Government has done a good job to encounter such a rebellious force and I think this should have been done earlier.
Pakistan army has again showed its importance in stabilizing our homeland and people, as it has always.
Asses your self, whether, army has ever backup in any circumstances, Earthquake, floods, internal aggression or external aggression / or political requirement.
We all need army, not just to keep our self secure from such unforeseen calamities but to react back in any such condition and events which require to be reacted.Let these activities to be monitored the way, which are specialized for the subject.
Criticism is necessary but positive criticism is always appreciated. Forget about what happened in 70; s, I myself was born in 1969, I don’t want to go back in history and what happened there and then.
Think about future and present.Think about the need of our younger generation now.
We have already spent more than half of our lives.
My father strived hard for me and now I am working to look after my next. We got to take over this country now.
This is the property given to us by our ancestors and we ought to look after and stabilize it by all means.

Media may not be allowed, neither by itself or by the public at large, to start “manufacturing” and manipulating information. One notices a trend of, almost, monopolising knowledge among those who have anything to do with disseminating any information. It goes without saying that it’s unhealthy and must be discouraged. A misinformed public is suusceptible to all kind of manipulation and is hardly able to influence any decision making process at least not in any positive way. The reality of that Lal Masjid (Red Mosque) and the whole sordid incident and how it has been given all sorts of colors is a case in point. It is a bad trend and has nothing to do with responsible information handling.
Another very negative task that the media, and those with pretense of being media, have assigned to themselves lately is systematically discreditting our military. It can be only described irresponsible at best. We have created our military at a great cost and we need it under present circumstances and crticising its shortcomings must not mean an attempt to disrepute and discredit this valuable national asset.
Mr Aftab,
Is media playing 100% wrong or Authorities/Agencies/Governement crushing rules and regulations for the sake of their survival. Please elaborate. As far your reservations about LAL MASJID that Media played game… Then Please visit me in same sector where this masque is. G-6 for your information. I will tell you… I think then you won’t say that your EYES are playing wrong otherwise its nothing like that.
As far your reservations about Military is concerned then I will loudly say that you are living in some other world. have you ever find any JALOOS/WALK against Terrorists when they attacks on Military or their person. Why Pakistanis are silent…??? Please think about it. You might not be able to reach actual answer but ISI have reached already. Thats why they asked new General to reinstate Goodwill about Military in the eyes of our own Pakistanis. You are living in Business City but I’m living next to them….. You may not accept truth but Majority of same Military is bound to accept it now.
I know you will not accept my views but dear please try to come on roads and discuss things with person like me…who keeps eyes on small small happenings and takes feed back from those personalities who are not easily accessible… Have you ever took information about KRL or NESCOM and have you ever evaluated their hiring process (Except Scientists). There are lot of hidden things which if Media will start to disclose then you will not be able to argue again.
Things are not as majority of people knows. I’m not blaming you but dear you are living in nice city…KARACHI…. far far away from GHQ/KRL/PAF/NAVY/AGENCIES/FIA etc etc. and I tell you that you are lucky that don’t hears as much bad news as we hears.
Dirt is every where because we are Pakistanis… a heard of sheep, who is simply selfish and greedy.
Mr Saleem Khan, of course, I accept your views to certain degree. All I am trying to say is that we should not let ourselves be manipulated by this manufacturers of disinformation and become instruments of destruction for our own assets. And I don’t like to think that we are a herd of sheeps. Yes we are victims of manipulation by our own leaders, which is a tragedy. However, solution is not in our such extreme negative attitude. I am also not rejecting all what media is reporting, my only complaint is that many of them in the media, for their own profit motives, are sensationalizing everything out of proportion. They outright disfigure the truth, they mutilate it, they slughter it and present the decomposed stinking remains to us. And it is not how truth should be handled.
I do accept that media some time exaggerates facts and figures. As CNN and BBC is doing against Pakistan and Muslims. Its real fact that this century will be rulled through Media and I.T. If they will get against any one… then he can’t survive. As India Media is these days saying that Pakistan is firing on our Army in Kashmir…. regardless of actual facts and figures.
Problem with our country is this that Government owes nothing so they can’t show actual picture. Their PTV is so weak due to internal clashes and corruption that it can’t cover each and every portion of Pakistan. As far JUNG group is concerned, they always takes revenge. Its 110% sure. If they can create problem for Nawaz Sharif when he tried to press them… they can also get against other after he tried to switch them off totally.
These groups are such a big giants that our poor government can do nothing. Same Jung group supported dictatorship and stopped publishing editorials of anti dictatorships personalities… now welcomed back on his board to write as they like. Its cold war and every body should feel now that real effecte of these war is only one ” COMMON MAN”.
