Lethal Mindset of Pakistani Voters
By Brig. (r) Junaid Zaman • Feb 15th, 2008 • Category: Pakistan Vote'08, Politics • No Responses •We Pakistanis, over the years have developed a penchant for the personalities rather than the system. This was exactly the reason why just after the brutal and ghastly assassination of two-time Prime Minister of Pakistan Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, every one started predicting as when the PPP will break up. The talk is still in the air that there are rising rifts among the cadres of PPP, and it is likely to be split into two or three factions, all claiming to be following the legacy of Benazir Bhutto and her father, the founder of the party Zufliqar Ali Bhutto who was also hanged in 1979 in the same city where her daughter was assassinated in 2007.
Many of the Pakistan voters exude an set of idealized fantasies onto most every candidate in the general and local elections. Many of us have a penchant for unconscious wishes that carry an idealized and more often than not contorted version of reality, one that is energetically laid over to obliterate the more untidy but actually true version of a leader’s humanity and reality.
These mass magnetic pulls from the pubic are the reason as why politicians find it impossible to leave the politics and this was basically the reason which compelled Benazir Bhutto to return to Pakistan, though she never really believed that she would be murdered in broad day light among her supporters.
We Pakistanis need to change our mindset, as this is not only lethal for ourselves but also for our leaders.
