Last Chance for All of Them

By The Pakistani Spectator • Jun 13th, 2008 • Category: Politics • No Responses •

There is a rampant talk in the media about the last chance for the politicians in Pakistan to prove their mettle and to appease the aspirations of the people. There is a debate going on that for the last time, people have given votes to the tried and tested politicians, and if this time these politicos disappoint, then not only it would be curtains for them, but also for the democracy in Pakistan for a long time.

It seems that Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan People’s Party has decided to just enjoy this spell of rule and power and he doesn’t intend to carry it on in the future. Perhaps he is way too smart and is learning lesson from the Bhutto family, and he knows that instead of getting into the bitter intricacies of the Pakistani politics, he should enjoy the free money with the blessing of National Reconciliation Ordinance.  Whatever he does now for the country would be a bonus for us and his kind favor.

Mian Nawaz Sharif’s future for the prime minister is also not very bright, as he has cornered himself and his open lashing at the real power wielders i.e. Pakistan Army has rendered him a non-candidate. Though he has become the most popular leader in the country, he stands no chance whatsoever to become prime minister in near future, if not ever. But his brother’s future is rosy and promising in that regard.

Shahbaz Sharif needs to now rise above the Punjabi circle. He has stamped his impression here, and now he must move on to the national level. His party PML-N needs to be in all provinces, if it doesn’t want to end up a confined and ethnic party. They have dormant representation in all the provinces, and they need to capitalize on it. Its also last chance for him, and if he misses it, he goes down the drain too.
