Karachi Terror Plot

By The Pakistani Spectator • Jan 20th, 2008 • Category: Politics • No Responses •

The ninth and 10th of Muharram are the days when people of Pakistan really become worried and uncertain. Life comes to standstill, and people either mourn or remain at home praying that things pass off peacefully.

Media reported that Karachi police has averted a potential bloody disaster by arresting at least five suspected militants armed with poison and bomb-related material. It is said that some companions of these terrorists are still on loose and the mourners and also the public should keep a very vigilant eye on their sorroundings.

It seems that the security measures which were redefined after the Peshawar attack last week have worked as thankfully no terrorist incident has happened so far in the Muharram gatherings. Five suspected terrorists who were captured by Karachi police planned to mix lethal poison in the water, soft drinks and milk distributed at Muharram sabeels (stalls). These terrorists also planned to blow themselves away during the Ashura processions.

According to the police officials three hand-grenades, six kilograms of explosives, six detonators, 500 grams of cyanide, a remote-control generator, a frequency generator, two kilograms of ball-bearings, one kilogram of nails and two TT pistols had been recovered from the suspects, one of whom was training to become a suicide bomber.

I was really stunned after this news of “suicide bomber training.” This shows how deep and calculated this network of terrorists have become, and how they are operating with cold-blooded efficiency.

We dont get much information regarding the whereabouts of these terrorists, but now officials are doing well to let us know exactly who and from where these terrorists belong. The five captured terrorist in Karachi belong to all the parts of country. One from Karachi, one from AJK, one from Multan, and one from Lodhran. They rented a house in North Karachi some months ago, then just before Eid-ul Azha brought ammunition and were arrested on the tip off an informant.

It’s very crucial that we all in Pakistan keep a very strict eye on our sorroundings. We all should once again see who is living in our neigbours and we should pay a special attention to the people who are newly living on rent in our neighbourhood. We shouldnt hesitate to contact law enforcement agencies in case we have even a slight suspicion. We have to defend ourselves. Terrorists must be stopped.
