Karachi Simmering : Who is Doing What to Whom ???

By Salman Mugsi • Nov 30th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 13 Comments •

Karachiites are living in hell. Already, load-shedding, price hike, financial crunches, terrorist activities, traffic jams and family-related tensions are skinning them alive and now the gory history of eighties is returning as the ethnic violence gets out of control.  Dozens of people have died and hundreds injured, while the life comes to the grinding halt in the financial capital of Pakistan.

Karachi City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal has announced closure of all public and private schools on Monday. Sindh Home Department has imposed a three-day ban on pillion riding in Karachi. President Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh, Shahi Syed had demanded of the Sindh Home Minister to establish writ of the government in Karachi and action be taken against the miscreants, and same has been demanded by the central Rabita committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

Widespread rumours of violence are reigning  high in the city, most of them baseless but the pessimistic and edgy citizens of the metropolis are extremely tense and anxious.

Just as the operation in Mumbai concludes, riots in Karachi start. Everybody in media is talking about unidentified personnel. Who are they? Do you have any idea?

  1. MQM is killing Pathans. They are taking advantage of Government’s weakness, as they have always done. Ethnic cleansing of Pathans is going on while the city administration supervises.

  2. AoA all.
Karachi has been a battlegroud since last 3-4 weeks, before yesterday and day before yesterday already 50-60 activists of various political parties have been killed including MQM haqiqi, ANP, Sunni Tehreek & PPP.
MQM is solely responsible for the law & order situation in Karachi. MQM is trying to destabilize Karachi and unleash reign of terror as it used to do in the past.
The people of Karachi are very much aware of MQMs terror activities. The PPP govt is being blackmailed by MQM.
It is about time that PPP part ways with MQM. This silence shown by the government on the aggravated law and order situation is beyond comprehension. I would request the federal government, interior ministry and the army to take notice of such massive killings which is disrupting the peace, stability & harmony of Karachi . Immediate efforts are needed by the government to restore peace in Karachi .

ALLAH HUMARA HAMI O NASIR HOOO

  3. According to news media, the recent troubles started at Banaras and Sohrab Goth area when people coming back from Sheep market were attacked and looted. We all know who dominate those areas. I remember the 1986 ethnic riots began from Sohrab Goth too when the buses were fired upon by the residents of that neighborhood.

Let’s hope that sanity prevails and ANP can bring their folks under control. The law and order is the responsibility of the PPP provincial government and they should take strict action without taking sides.

  4. the sheep market incident is just a filmsy excuse to start a ethinic cleansing in karachi, if it was just this why was not the police involved?

MQM is just trying to show it self as the saviour of karachi protecting karachi from the tailban

mqm defination of tailban : any pathan with beard

just like musharraf tried to show himself the only wall between talban and pakistan in the context of the lal masjid carnage

musharrf’s tactic failed , soon mqm will find the same fate because the the mqm chief is an illiterate small minded person dont belive me see for your self

  5. MQM and ANP, both agents of CIA, are playing this game. For those who are living in Karachi it is not difficult to identify who is killing who but the most pathetic is PPP government attitude. Why is it unable to establish the writ of government and why is it not taking notice of police’s blind eye on all this?

  6. Hey guys, cool down and enjoy this:

Good question. The law and order is the responsibility of the PPP government since the police and other security forces report to PPP interior minister, Z. Mirza. PPP don’t want to take any action against the ANP criminals due to political considerations.

Those of us who were in Karachi in mid-80s know very well who started killing people in Sohrab Goth and who came down from mountains with arms to butcher people in Orangi Town. The difference is that this time people of Karachi are more prepared then they were in 60s or 80s against the same drug smugglers and arms dealers.

Keep on dreaming. MQM has been there and will be there whether people like you, like it or not. As far as illiterate goes, I thought the MQM cheif had masters from KU but ofcourse he is not from the same elite class like NS, IK, or BB so people like you may find it hard to accept someone from a lower middle class background leading a major political party.

  9. I think it is clear viewing this vedio, who is responsible for the recent bloodshed in Karachi. Catch them and hang them

    Thanks to Dawar Naqvi

  10. @ Kheshgi

ITS NOT ABOUT BEING middle class , why cant Altaf Hussain act like Mustafa kamal?

  11. AOM
it was happened in the heart of Karachi not in outskirts of nwfp.Where was writ of govt as such kind of meeting was permitted by local govt too.MQM had proof but why were these people not arrested. Both anp and mqm are joining hands in front of media on some invisible peace mission but why these people showing fire arms, are freely allowed to roam on streets of Karachi.Till that time 50 people have been killed but not a single criminal is caught by our law enforcing .Such scenes are continuity of 12 may /27 dec incidents that have encouraged state of lawlessness in Karachi and mqm in the govt is fully enjoying extra judicial killing in this way.Man eater animals can not live without human blood and that is what happening on the streets of Karachi,This time karachi people should avoid animal sacrifices as it will lead another blood shed on the name of animal skin looting but surely make security plans of saving their skins as serial killers characters are allowed freely to move in the streets of karachi.

Well, at a minimum give Altaf Hussain the credit that he attracted educated and energetic people like Mustafa Kamal to his party and then had an eye to select him for the Mayor role.

    :-)

  13. we want peace in karachi…
    Thanks
