Judges Restoration : Do or Die

By Sameer Shaharyar • Jul 24th, 2008 • Category: Politics • (3,564 views) • 3 Comments

Enough has been said and sloganeered in the name of restitution of the deposed judges, and nation has seen enough of expediency, manipulation and shenanigans on the part of politicians and other stakeholders in this contentious game, and now it should be over at one side or another.

In a declaration of All Pakistan Lawyers Convention, the Pakistan Bar Council has announced August 14 as deadline for the government to reinstate the deposed judges. So be it. That deadline should act as final for the lawyers, and after that they must not repeat the fiasco of the May Long March. They should do what they can do in order to restore the judges, and they should not budge this time. Still the people support their just cause, and still people want to see those judges in the higher courts who said “No” to the dictator. But people do not want to be dragged along in endless games of deadlines, long marches, train marches ,Dharnas or protests at every Thursdays.

Still the popularity of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary stands highest, and still people are ready to rally behind the cause of the lawyers and civil society, and now PML-N is also ready to come in public for this cause without any bindings with the PPP, but it must be the lawyers who should be leading the cause, and it must be them who should not bow or kowtow in front of any political agenda either from PPP or from PML-N or from anyone else.

Enough is enough for this judges crisis. The people behind the conspiracy have got the fruit or somebody else has got the fruit. But Pakistan has suffered a lot during this one year. Most of the game of these judges have accomplished. Only Nawaz And Shehbaz Sharif case is pending. If this is done in favor Sharif family then 100% job is done.A good CJ (OUR CJ is must for the opponents government but would be disastrous for us and especially this a sort of moody/insane CJ. If ppp government need some time to survive these judges must rest in peace and if Sharif government comes then no need for these judges.I see the game is finished for these judges. They have played according to the plan. Good Bye.

Sameer, do you really think the choice to be that narrow? Which one in your opinion is greater evil and which is lesser? Later or the former? Since, none seems to be doing anything or even interested in it; then who do you suggest should be dying? The lawyers, the judges or us the ordinary people?
