Jirgas Should Be Consolidated
By Brig. (r) Junaid Zaman • Oct 5th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 2 Comments •After the visit of chief of army staff Gen Kayani to the restive tribal areas, the sense of standing for their rights has been harnessed among the tribal people, and now they are out in the public to support the army, and to express their solidarity with the security forces, virtually every agency has formed multiple Lashkars answerable to the jirgas comprising of the elders of that agency to fight the militants and to cleanup their areas from their grip.
But these efforts are sprinkled and even in one agency, multiple tribes have their own Lashkars. These lashkars have the same objective of combating the Talibans and to either eliminate them or to push them out of their areas, while supporting the security forces against the clashes with Talibans providing them with logistics and the much needed intelligence.
If these Lashkars are joined and coordinated under single command of grand jirga from all agencies and tribes, with professional advice and support from the Pakistan Army, then it would take very little time to wipe out the militancy and to re-enact the writ of the government in the area.
A joint jirga must be formed to formulate a joint strategy against local militants.

The Daily Times says that Baitullah Mehsud is seriously ill. The news is:
ISLAMABAD: Saturday, October 04, 2008.
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Baitullah Mehsud is seriously ill with diabetes and may even be in a coma, security officials and Taliban commanders said on Wednesday. Local television channels reported that Mehsud had died overnight. However, officials and Taliban sources insist he is still alive, AFP reported. “Baitullah is sick. His condition is precarious,” a senior Pakistani security official said on condition of anonymity. The father of Mehsud’s fiancé said Mehsud was ‘in a coma’, security officials said. afp
Where as Urdu Daily Khabrain (04 Oct 2008) reports that Taliban Commander Baitullah Mehsud was given a grand Heroic reception in South Waziristan at place called Saam. To celebrate his surprise appearance among his followers a spectacular show of firing in the air of small and medium arms, Rocket grenade launchers and artillery guns was conducted. A traditional ceremony of honouring the man as Hero and presenting him the turban and garland was also held. In order to kill the rumours in the press of his severe Illness; he being in coma or even his death; it is reported that Baitullah mehsud who is hale and hearty, also visited the other sanctuaries under his command at the places like Makeen, Ladhaa, Kani garam, Saley rogha and Badar. He keeps on addressing his followers on FM radios, about twenty in total. Says NNI.
Which news is the correct news?
Is there any one in the Ministry of Information who is monitoring such news and its publication? If at all this stooge is suffering from terminal illness; how come our intelligence forces even cannot find this sitting duck and if he is not ill and is hale and hearty; how come such a big gatherings and cavalcade of TTP roaming about in South Waziristan, in such a large number can go unnoticed; where a large scale Pak Army operation is being carrying out to eliminate this group.
On the other side; there are reports that huge local Lashkars and Jirgas are also in formation every where to crush the TTP movement and they are actively assisting and supporting Army actions.
But this is all controversial? A Zero sum game. One should believe what? It is not the time that our actions are counted as piffle any more. There is an old saying; Cut off the head of snake and body will die it self. This is not a traitor that we are targeting to destroy but the Satanic Ideas… and they are spreading.
The sovereignty of Pakistan is stake!
