By The Pakistani Spectator • Dec 31st, 2009 • Category: Interviews • 8 Comments

I’m Zain Ali, 21 from Karachi, Pakistan. An undergrad student of Computer Science and as a computer enthusiast I like to discover, try and share newer stuff regarding technology and software. Beside studies I like to do programming in my part time to perfect myself in my field. I blog at TipsoTricks.com and share my knowledge that I learn on daily basis regarding computers and internet.

Could you tell us what made you decide to blog, and what was the inspiration behind it?

In summer 2008, One day I saw some of my friends blogging in my university. When I asked they told me about it, that you can have your own blog, you control it, you will have readers and best of all you can earn from it - that thing totally inspired me! I never learned how to start or where to start. I searched and learned everything all by myself. I am always a technology enthusiast and surf randomly on internet to learn new things. I used to collect and save web pages containing useful information that I like. I decided to put those and all new stuff I surf daily on my own blog.

What do you think sets your blog apart from other blogs?

I blended topics on tips, tricks, guides and tutorials of blogging, computing and internet in one place at TipsoTricks.com

If you had to describe life as a blogger in a Twitter message (140 characters) what would you say?

It’s both fun and responsible job to do. You have full authority over your writings but you have to be creative at the same time!

If you could choose one characteristic you have that brought you success in life, what would it be?

Wining trust of people around me is my greatest success and I think it’s my honesty or truthfulness to others that help me push forward.

What was the happiest and gloomiest moment of your life?

Hmmm, I remember it was when I got admission in University back in 2007. It was a day that I can’t forget.

Urdu Blogs have got huge potential, when do you think they will really take on the online horizon in Pakistan?

Yes they have huge potential but only a few are there who are writing in Urdu. It’ll not take on until Urdu composing software and fonts come freely in numbers. Pakistanis really need to work hard on it. Currently Urdu font is little hard to read on most of the websites. They have to improve it first - take an example of hindi fonts and blogs. We have lot of potential writers here but just because of language barrier they are unable to express themselves properly.

If you could pick a travel destination, anywhere in the world, with no worries about how it’s paid for - what would your top 3 choices be?

1. Switzerland 2. Dubai 3. China

What is your favorite book and why?

I don’t read books.

What is your favorite meal, dress, and sport?

I love all spicy foods and like to wear comfortable dress and Shalwar Qameez no doubt is the most comfortable of all. In sports I like badminton and cricket.

Which are the top 3 places in Pakistan for honeymoon?

Interesting question! Well Northern areas are best for this. Like, Muree, Kaghaan and Lake Saif-ul-Muluk.

What’s the first thing you notice about a person (whether you know them or not)?

Physical appearance and then way of talking.

Whose Future is more bright in Pakistan; English blogs or Urdu Blogs?

Definitely English Blogs if they want to compete internationally.

How Pakistani bloggers can benefit from blogs financially?

By writing consistently and providing genuine material every blogger can benefit from his blog. Eventually when readership and popularity increases benefits from financial side comes in front automatically.

Do you think Pakistani bloggers tend to remain somewhat self-centered and really don’t go out of their shells? Is it the oriental style of blogging, or they are still unsure about it?

Yes I do observe this oriental style of blogging in almost all Pakistani bloggers except few. Usually all of them are following same pattern of writing. Either they write about latest news or happenings or sharing some knowledge taken from blogosphere.

What do you think where the Pakistani blogosphere is right now?

Pakistani blogosphere is definitely expanding its boundaries. People are selecting newer domains to write on. But still most of young bloggers take blogging as an earning scheme. They focus more on earning rather than writing quality content and increasing readership. We have so much potential to make a difference in blogosphere but newbies have to give up the track where blogging is taken as earning program.

Who are your top five favourite bloggers in Pakistan?

I can’t point out top 5 of them. But I regularly read, Propakistani.pk, Teeth.com.pk, Pakistaniat.com, chowrangi.com and pakspectator.com.

Have you ever become stunned by the uniqueness of any blogger in Pakistani blogosphere?

Yes there are many blogger in Pakistan. In fact I discover a new blog almost daily while surfing. I’d recommend bloggers.pk for discovering Pakistani Blogosphere.

What is the future of blogging in Pakistan?

Future is definitely prosperous in Pakistan. People are actively taking part and coming with new ideas daily with a good pace.

You have also got a blogging life, how has it directly affected both your personal and professional life?

Blogging can be adopted as a full-time job and in that case it affects your personal life. I write whenever I find something really unique or interesting to share. Since I haven’t started my professional career yet it is not affecting my personal life.

What are your future plans?

To expand my domain of writing, to include more varieties and to be more consistent towards my blog. Since visitors are increasing daily, I’m looking forward to include more creative writers in my team.
