Interview with Blogger Peter Parkour

By The Pakistani Spectator • Sep 9th, 2008 • Category: Interviews • 6 Comments

Would you please tell us something about you and your site?Hi, my name is Peter Parkour, I am a professional truck driver.  My blog is for adults only, but let its title “Hate And Anger” fool you.  It mostly consists of crazy pictures I find on the internet, short stories, and anything else that strikes me as funny, entertaining, or worth sharing.

Do you feel that you continue to grow in your writing the longer you write? Why is that important to you?

Yes, my writing has improved, but not much.  I don’t have near as much time to write as I would like.  If I did, I’m sure my writing would be that much better.  It’s important, because I want to put forth the best blog I can, and writing well is a big part of that.

I’m wondering what some of your memorable experiences are with blogging?

The friendships I’ve made along the way.  Unbelievable and unforgettable.

What do you do in order to keep up your communication with other bloggers?

I use Google Reader to keep tabs on all of the blogs I read.  If I notice they haven’t posted in a while, I’ll send them an e-mail to check on them.

What do you think is the most exciting or most innovative use of technology in politics right now?

The internet in general: blogs, YouTube, etc.  I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Do you think that these new technologies are effective in making people more responsive?

Responsive?  Yes, but not necessarily in a positive way.  I see a lot of opinions swirling around out there, and not all of them are based on facts.  Many are based on feelings and emotions, and in politics that just isn’t good enough.

What do you think sets Your site apart from others?

I do my best to keep it real and honest.  I also try to stay on top of my comments.  I check them at least once every 24 hours (if nothing stops me), giving each comment personal time and attention.

If you could choose one characteristic you have that brought you success in life, what would it be?

Self respect.  It’s worked pretty good for me, except for a couple of times that I turned my back on it.  I won’t be doing that any more.

What was the happiest and gloomiest moment of your life?

Gloomiest: getting sentenced to prison.  Happiest: getting out of prison in one piece.

If you could pick a travel destination, anywhere in the world, with no worries about how it’s paid for - what would your top 3 choices be?

Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania.  I’ve been fascinated with all three all my life.

What is your favorite book and why?

“The Girl With The Silver Eyes” by Willo Davis Roberts.  Why?  It was a fun book about a girl that could move objects with her mind.  I only wish there was a sequel to it.  I read it back in Junior High School.

What’s the first thing you notice about a person (whether you know them or not)?

Their face.  I rarely forget a face, but I have a hard time remembering names.

Is there anyone from your past that once told you you couldn’t write?

No.  Well… maybe me.

How can bloggers benefit from blogs financially?

It’s all about marketing.  If people are drawn to it, it has value.

Is it true that who has a successful blog has an awful lot of time on their hands?

I definitely think that might help, but I don’t think it’s mandatory.

What role can bloggers of the world play to make this world friendlier and less hostile?

Be honest.  Don’t misrepresent yourself.  Being yourself goes a long way.

Who are your top five favourite bloggers?

The list changes daily, but today my favorite five would be:

#1 800 Miles - one great blog, two great bloggers.

#2 I Married A Country Boy - zombies and corn and cold weather, oh my.

#3 Praying To Darwin – she’s funny, witty and a vivid dreamer.

#4 Twisted Family Antics - everyday activities turned into wild adventures.

#5 Whatever I Think – a bubbly personality and beautiful sense of humor.

Is there one observation or column or post that has gotten the most powerful reaction from people?

My niece was shot by her psycho boyfriend, and that post has received more hits than any other.  There are a lot of people out there fascinated by bullet wounds.

What is your perception about Pakistan and its people?

I don’t have a perception of Pakistan or its people.  I judge people one at a time, and I do my best to be as firm, fair and consistent as possible.  Everyone deserves respect, until they lose it.

Have you ever become stunned by the uniqueness of any blogger?

Every day.  They (everyone on my blogroll) never cease to amaze me.

What is the most striking difference between a developed country and a developing country?

I’d have to say birth rates and death rates.

What is the future of blogging?

Video posts seem to be an increasing trend in my circle, but as for the future of blogging… I would have to say an amazing network of friends, family and like minded people.

You have also got a blogging life, how has it directly affected both your personal and professional life?

It’s had no effect on my professional life.  My personal life has been affected on so many levels.  Peering into the lives of others, and having others peering into mine is very humbling.  People I’ve never even met are always on my mind.

What are your future plans?

I want to make the world a better place for women.  My wife and I are plotting and planning constantly.  Wish us luck.

Any Message you want to give to the readers of The Pakistani Spectator?

Any message I have can be found in my words above.  I speak from the heart and teach by example.  Other than that, live and let live.

peter summed it all up beautifully, and what a way to put the whole blogging perspective as a “humbling” experience. like teeni, i can only agree more to his honesty and strength of character.

    wow, great interview!
