Interview with Blogger Arshat Chaudhary
By The Pakistani Spectator • May 11th, 2009 • Category: Interviews • No ResponsesMy name is Arshat Chaudhary. I am 23 years of age. I am a humour-romance blogger living in Mumbai. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I worked for the German giant Siemens for a while. I will be starting my course in MBA the next month. Feel free to read my blog at http://thetimepassofindia.blogspot.com/
Kindly leave comments if you like something. Take care. Have fun.
Would you please tell us something about you and your site?
I am a Mechanical engineer from the prestigious(I have been paid to say that) SPCE in Mumbai.. I will be joining one of the top Bschools in a country the next month.
Though humour is one of the key ingredients of my blogposts, I dont have a specific theme for blogging.. My blogposts are pretty random just like everything else in my life..
Do you feel that you continue to grow in your writing the longer you write? Why is that important to you?
I feel I have improved as a writer over the years (I make it sound like I am Stephen King). I have been writing since 2 years. When I look at my older posts I think I have become more mature- I mean as a writer- as a person I am still as immature as I was 12 years ago.
I’m wondering what some of your memorable experiences are with blogging?
There are quite a few. From friends messaging me at 2 in the night to tell me how much they loved a certain post to complete strangers sending me emails about how much they love me.
What do you do in order to keep up your communication with other bloggers?
I dont think you need to try too hard to keep up the communication with other bloggers. You see, since we respect each other so much, and love each others writings so much, every blogpost is like a communicating with them..
So many politicians nowadays are using blogging as a tool to reach out to the crowds. Even online advertising has increased.
While these technologies are innovative, I doubt if they are effective.
What do you think sets Your site apart from others?
My booker prize winning writing skills!!- hehehe. I think my site looks snazzy and messy at the same time. I designed it myself, which explains the messy part. Since I write about random issues, every post is a surprise. The readers dont know what to expect. That surprise element keeps them hooked.
If you could choose one characteristic you have that brought you success in life, what would it be?
I am Hard working. Okay okay. Dont laugh. I was born lazy, just like Adam and Eve. But my average Grade 10 scores made me realise that I have to work hard if I have to succeed in my academics. Slowly, I applied that to every genre of my life. A heart, I am still a lazy bean bag.
What was the happiest and gloomiest moment of your life?
Dont know about life, but recently, Happiest moment was when I got an admit to a course in MBA.
Gloomiest moment in the recent times has been India’s loss in Cricket World Cup 2003.
If you could pick a travel destination, anywhere in the world, with no worries about how it’s paid for - what would your top 3 choices be?
1. Sweden. I read about it in the book - ‘Catch me if you can’. They have the best prisons. No, that doesnt mean I want to spend my life in the prison there. I just think if they are that nice to criminals, how nice must they be to their citizens.
2.Malay - heard they have lovely beaches.
3.Nuremberg - i was destined to go there when I used to work for Siemens. Now I have left the company, but one part of me still wants to check that place out.
What is your favorite book and why?
I read Khalid Hosseni’s The kite runner, and I loved it.
Their sense of dressing. Did I hear someone call me shallow?
Is there anyone from your past that once told you you couldn’t write?
No. I have been told I cant sing and dance (which I actually cant). I have also been told, I cant bowl fast (which I think I can). Apart from this, I dont think there is that I have been told that I cant do. I am pretty good at almost everything you see…
How bloggers can benefit from blogs financially?
The normal answer would be through Google adsense. But all of us know it pays peanuts. What I would suggest is to have ad sites on your blog. Ad site is a space where you paste the ad of your sponser. Rates can start from as low as Rs. 2000 per month. But that is still more than what you will make through adsense. Thats it. I am not sharing any more of my money making secrets.
Is it true that who has a successful blog has an awful lot of time on their hands?
Umm, I will have to agree to the fact that blogging takes a lot of time. And by blogging, I dont mean just writing - designing the site, publicizing the site, all these activities also take a lot of time. But once you set things up, you dont have to give it so much time.
What role can bloggers of the world play to make this world more friendlier and less hostile?
Humour is the key. If we spread around the cheer, the world will be better place.
Who are your top five favourite bloggers?
I dont have favourite bloggers per se. I just like to go through the blogs of all humour blogs. After all, you cant have an overdose of laughs now, can you?
Is there one observation or column or post that has gotten the most powerful reaction from people?
I wrote this post - Raka Calling. It is by far the most loved post on my blog.
Nice people. Hard working, chaste, God fearing. But lack of political stability over the years has given rise to extremism. If Pakistan wants to become a develpoed country any time soon, it should put an end to extremist thought and develop avenues for its youth to grow and contribute.
Have you ever become stunned by the uniqueness of any blogger?
Stunned? umm, cant think of anyone right now.
What is the most striking difference between a developed country and a developing country?
The outlook towards life. The outlook towards life in a developed country is more realxed. In a developing country, the outlook towards life is more business-like. ROI is of paramount importance in a developing country. That is why you will find people working in a field that pays well, even if they have no interest in that field.
What is the future of blogging?
There will be more and more bloggers coming in. Blogging is here to stay.
You have also got a blogging life, how has it directly affected both your personal and professional life?
Personally, friends start respecting you at a level. Note that I said at a level, that means they still pull your leg and crack jokes at your expense, but deep inside they know you are not the talentless, jobless, lazyass they thought you were.
On the professional front, your boss begins to feel you have a lot of free time, and starts giving you more work.
What are your future plans?
First, I have to eat. I am hungry. hehehe..
I will be joining a top Indian Bschool in a month. I might also bring out a novel. But the project is in its nascent stages.
Any Message you want to give to the readers of The Pakistani Spectator?
Read Pakspectator.com regularly. In the newspapers we read about foreign views on local problems. For once it is good to have locals express their views on
problems that are their own.
