Impeachment of Musharraf

By Ali Yar Khan • Feb 28th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 4 Comments

Rumors are running like wild horses in the capital Islamabad that Pervez Musharraf is on his way out and now its just matter of days not months. The spokesman of President has denied this but there is a thing with these rumors that isn’t letting them die down.

The winning parties especially PML-N is not counting and believing on the voluntarily exit of Musharraf and they are lobbying hard for the impeachment of President Musharraf. They have at least managed to get their acts joined and now PPP, PML-N, and ANP are together and they are claiming the support of numerous independents and other nationalist parties from Balochistan and even the support of some defections from the PML-Q.

Now they are holding a tri-party meeting of all the elected candidates from PPP, PML-N, and ANP and that would be a signal that the winning coalition has got two third majority and they can easily impeach President Musharraf. There is a fast-developing speech battle between the United States ambassadors who want to preserve Musharraf at top and those who seek to preserve the mandate of nation.

The vote polled in the favour of Arrow and Tiger was, without any doubt, anti-Musharraf. We all know very well that there is and was no worth of PML-Q and all the orders and directives always came from the top and these lotas were only there to nod their heads. Nation has spoke and the falling of PML-Q stalwarts is one proof of it. Nation doesnt want rhetoric and it wants that the new parliament gets in order as soon as possible and then impeach Mr. President. Though I suspect that Musharraf will allow that pleasure to the newly elected members, and will go away himself.

It is incumbent upon all the elected candidates to cherish the confidence bestowed upon them by the nation through their votes and promptly restore the judiciary and restore the 1973 constitution in its original form otherwise this delay and rigmarole of vested politics will eviscerate the morale of nation for decades to come.

As Paradise Lost, Book 1 says:

Save what the glimmering of these livid flames

Casts pale and dreadful? Thither let us tend

From off the tossing of these fiery waves,

There rest if any rest can harbour there

And reassembling our afflicted Powers.
