How many more ‘4s’
By Farid Masood • Jan 28th, 2008 • Category: Politics • No ResponsesThe Federal Food Committee (FFC) should increased the official flour price at Utility Stores and in the open market by a minimum of Rs4 per kg if it wants to discourage smuggling of flour. This suggestion was given by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) to FFC.
The flour price at the Utility Stores is reported to be @ Rs13 and in open market is @ Rs16. The new prices by the addition of Rs 4 shall be @ Rs 17 and @ Rs 20 respectively.
If we see towards exchange rate of Rupee with US Dollar, the USD is going up day by day as compared to Pakistani Rupee. How many more Rs 4 per kg to be added to stop the smuggling of wheat / flour.
In my humble view barter system to acquire wheat or flour should be started so that wheat may not be bought with any currency. Government may also decide what to import in exchange of wheat / flour from other countries. Or nation may choose another food stuff instead of ‘Atta’ may be cake, pizza etc
