High-Pressure Slickness
By Irfan Waheed • Nov 6th, 2009 • Category: Politics • One ResponseOne thing that the current crowd around President Asif Ali Zardari is adept is “glibness.” Unctuous attitude by the ministers, advisors and other office holders of this regime has achieved new heights. They can present coughing of Zardari as the most melodious song every sung.
From Dr. Babar Awan to Khurshid Shah and from Fauzia Wahab to Nabeel Gabol, everyone has his or her own style, but their only duty seems to be calling white, a black and night, a day. It seems that Farhatullah Baber daily takes stock of their glib performances and then report to the big boss, who then scolds or bless likewise.
At least I cannot defend Zardari over NRO, no matter how much I got paid or how much I be given in perks and privileges. But watching the PPP stalwarts defending NRO, and giving arguments in favor of it is a fascinating spectacle, second to none.
Do they really believe that they can win the hearts and minds of Pakistanis for NRO with their slick talk and fake honesty and the routine reminder of martyrdom?

Excellent writing! Zardari is milking the sympathy for BB to the maximum! Frankly the NRO doesn’t matter to ordinary Pakistanis. The fact that our leaders are so busy arguing about it says a lot about how disconnected they are with the lot of ordinary Pakistanis. Inflation is the primary concern for us.
