For PPP-PML Judges are not an Issue
By Muskan Hina • Jun 21st, 2008 • Category: Politics • (3,595 views) • 2 CommentsIt is true that the lawyers movement has won considerable support in the people, and one major party of the country along with other small time players are supporting it overtly, but it is also true that this issue, in actual, has not remained the top most issue between PPP and PML-N, who have joined the fray to rule the country.
The main issue in the talks in Dubai, London and Lahore is not the restoration of the judiciary, rather it’s how to block the way of future dictators from murdering an elected government. These negotiations are basically a brain-storming sessions in which different ways are being discussed in that regard. Impeachment of Musharraf is another issue.
Zardari has made it clear to Nawaz Sharif that United States want Pakistani government to not to touch Musharraf before the power changes hand in US to save face for Bush, as Bush has got only Pakistan to save his face. Perhaps this time America wants it’s future dictators to know that they don’t leave their puppets alone in the twilight times of their rule, when everybody considers them a punching bag. Nawaz Sharif wants to impeach Musharraf now despite of the US pressure, upon which PPP has agreed to some extent, and the middle of July is expected to see that good day.
Then would come a cruncher. Zardari says that the next president would be “Jiya Bhutto”, while Nawaz Sharif has announced the name of Rafiq Tarrar for the President. Perhaps this could be the last straw on the back of the camel and a plausible excuse for both to part ways from each other after the departure of Musharraf. Sticking together in post-Musharraf era may be good for the country, but it wouldn’t be good for the vested interests of these parties.

That means both these selfish leaders are deceiving the people of Pakistan through wrong claims. They are only making sure to have the biggest chunk of power cake. They have been tried twice by the people and on both occasions they betrayed the trust of the people.
I think we should come out of the narrow thinking which revolves around the present set of politicians who are tried and tested for 60 years. We need revolution. The only way to root out deep rooted corruption, red-tapism, nepotism, injustice, terrorism and other social ills. We need to purify and ablute our country and put her on the path of progress and prosperity. Let’s reject all these political parasites and discuss new avenues.
