Firing at the Weddings in Pakistan
By Amna Gilani • Aug 2nd, 2008 • Category: Misc, Worth A Second Look • (4,101 views) • 15 CommentsI was tending to my ill grandmother after coming from office and after taking dinner, when all of a sudden all hell broke loose. Blasts upon blasts occurred and we all panicked. The already ill grandmother just fainted, and I was dumbfounded. I thought perhaps a bomb blast has occurred or it might be a suicide attack. There was also the possibility of another Indian adventure.
The blasts continued and then I heard loud laughter and clapping with blaring music. I went upstairs and it was revealed to me that all the fuss, commotion and panic was due to the ongoing wedding in the neighbors. Youth was firing in the air with sophisticated arms, and the rest of them were blasting crackers and dancing with the tune of loud music, while the ladies of the house clapped and cheered.
The rumpus went on well beyond the midnight, and the whole locality was hapless. After two hours of start of this hoo-haa, I gathered my guts and went to the elder of neighbors and politely requested him to ask his youth and guests to stop firing and they would also do a favor by lowering the sound of the music. The elder was stunned and angry at my “interference”. He sneered and asked me to not to be a fly in the ointment and either I could join them and have a ball, or I could simply get lost.
I smoldered inside. I came back home, and called the nearby police station and told the duty officer the whole story and asked for his help. I recalled him that they were very active in evicting the loud speakers from the roofs of Mosques, and now they should also stop these callous people from ruining the peace of hundreds of people. The duty officer first inquired about my mental health, and then asked me to go to some friend’s home for the night, and he hang up.
This trend of blaring wedding full with firing and fireworks have become a trend and a status symbol. People think that their daughter or son couldn’t really enjoy their “Suhag Raat” without the booming bombs. Oh yes, and we almost daily hear the death of people due to the stray bullets fired on such ceremonies.

What a pity?
Lost her college job, as lecturer.
Now ,working in office.
Being, humiliated by neighbors and then police, as well.
No body is there, to listen her.
One should write an article on her miseries.
Blogging kay rung meri khushio kay sung.
He told me that he was the brother of one of my student and saw me in the college and he took my number from his sister’s diary, and now he wanted to have a friendship with me, because I was the dream girl he was looking for so many years and he was not only crushed by my looks, but also just loved my articles at TPS and the way I used to teach in the college. Without brakes he went on and on for some 15 minutes.
Dear amna, please get married or it will be difficult to get you back from depression, a psychiatrically evaluated free advice.

Dear Amna, first welcome back on board. Your absence was seriously felt on TPS.
You are right. Now our society is not a society. It is just like heard of sheep. People lost values. Same happens in every street. People not even bothers to get permission and puts tents and blocks roads and street for 3 or 4 days by putting excuse that we have marriage function. What kind of marriage function that puts whole street residents in hell. Marriage visitors whistle and laugh on college girls, who in miserable condition tries to cross there tents. What is going on all around us. Please come on and teach these so called educated citizen living in cities. Who are actually worst than those who lives in villages and regards their neighbour girls like sisters and mothers. Please think a bit and consider cries of these people.
Alas…we want lot from government and leaders but reluctant to change our habits and wrong practices first.

Hi amna, You lost your job as lecturer and i think the students realy have lost a LEADER who always spoke the truth bluntly. what i found interesting is your quote about “another Indian adventure” I have been advocating this adventure in my blogs in india but our political bosses never listen because only our ordinary soldiers are dying at the LOC and Kabul.
In India though there were no gunshots, still our “baraths” is not considered a barath unless they block traffic, showcase their dancing talents to loud bollywood music and keep their neighbours awake( the bands which plays them are considrered better when they are dressed in loud clothes and louder music!!!) but then that is what we south asians are NOICY and unfortunately you are one.

Welll Amna i completely concure with your article regarding the abuse of mobile phones……….But the main problem that i believe you didn’t cover in ur article was that it is because of culture and ignorance that we are suffering……..and would also like to point out that gun fires at wedding ceremonies should be totally discouraged……..Neways i thhink u r doing good by writing these articles and sincerely hope u continue to do so in the future

Amna Gilani, is it not unfortunate that even our personal happiness is reduced to this perverse display of celebration. This is just another example of our national stupidity, period.

people displaying reakless disregard for others lives should be severely punished

Hi Amna, good to have you back…it was again a good effort of indicate a social issue. I hope these blogs would atleast cause such effects that we all reader should try to stop such activites to best extend.
A little note,,, the “SUHAAG RAAT” mentioning line was inappropriate, you had such a good command over vocabulary to provide your better choice to express your personal emotions over a public Blog.hope this won’t go unheard. Good luck.

@rizwan younas,
this writer has a pervervrsion.she deliberately use such words so to attract traffic.whenever you would write this word suhaagraat on any site her article would always open .this ia an artistic way to get gratification.

Dr. Razahaider
You were a great fan of amna till yesterday, trying to seduce her, in all her postings, with your remarks such as “Blogging kay rang, meri khushion kay sang ” all the times. When, I caught you doing this with all female paticipants, you start showing another color, to decieve us. What Amna writes is another Question, but none of your writings attract any traffic, and almost all of them are total nonsense, and poor taste, and, leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t you were in Pakistan army or not, and hope all military man in Pakistan are not like you, you have potential to write, but you are misusing it.
” Suhag Raat ” The wedding night, is a holy, most romantic, moments in some one life:
Narrated Ibn Abbas: “The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, `If anyone of you, when having a sexual intercourse with his wife says:
In the name of Allah! O Allah! Protect me from Satan and protect what you bestow upon us (i.e. an offspring) from Satan.
and if it is destined that they should have a child, then Satan will never be able to harm him.’”
So mentioning it does’t come under ” Perversion ”
God knows who is pervert.
I expect some creative, positive writings from you.

Amna, Raza Haider and Saeed are good enough to create an intresting time to read your blogs.. but off course i like your and agree with your articles. The point i felt about mentioning vocabulary still stands there.” A good writer would always use delicacy in cuts than use Blunt edges”. Good day.

Ruzwan
” always use delicacy in cut than use Blunt edges” quiet sexy suggestions to a lady. How you come up with such delicate ideas. you live in a fool’s paradise, and unable to extract meaning from words.
You got it all wrong. Shame on you.
