The Pakistani Spectator

12 days go… 12 days in perhaps what will be the most important election in our countries history. Much has been written and discussed and i do not wish to add a lot more to this aside from a few thoughts.I do not believe that we as a nation are not entitled to democracy, no matter whoever wearing the khaki uniform tells us so in whatever guise.

I do not think that our land is going to end up divided, no matter how many politicians tend to breath fuel on fires of nationalism and civil discord.

I do not understand the point of voting for past luteiras in new faces. Some even if with new hair.

I seriously do not care if the ruling party tries its best to rig the elections. Every ruling party in every election in this country in the past has done the same.

I do not consider boycott to be the solution to our woes.

I do however believe in the spirit of our nation. Of our people who have shown it so many times, from the aid outpouring in the earthquake to the volunteers each time a tragedy strikes us. They may crush us with price shortages, they may dump oil on the fire of our rage by international tours. They can also try to threaten us with martial law if we do not foot the line. What they cannot do my friends is extinguish the spirit of this race. Of us as Pakistanis who want change, who want someone to lead us. Democracy is a method of trial and error, let us on Feb 18th vote for whomsoever we chose, whoever we think might do some work for their respective post, but let us vote and show our power. Let us show the world that we as a nation have a conscience and too many have raped it too many times for us to bear anymore!!
