Dr. Shahid Masood Shouting Fire in Crowded Theater
By Altaf Khan • Nov 23rd, 2009 • Category: Politics • 6 CommentsWrong or Right, our media has become so much powerful, ubiquituous and superior that it can make or break the governments. This new king-making role has given new dimensions to the way this country is and will be ruled from now on. Banning the media is not an option anymore, and equally the measures to regulate or control the media by the government is useless too, and besides no one would like to tread this very dangerous and unpopular path.
But that has apparantly got into the heads of many. In the nascent democracy of Pakistan, some anchorpersons are already fedup of the democratically elected president and their chosen people. They are trying hard to bring out the rattling skeletons in the cupboard of presidency just to embarrass the president and to see him quitting leaving the country in yet another mess. Not a single corruption charge has been proved on the President Zardari during this term and all the mud which is being slung belongs to the past.
If you watch “Meray Mutabiq” by Dr. Shahid Masood you would think that the presenter of the program has some personal score to settle with the president. He always invited the likes of Ansar Abbasi, Shaheen Sehbai and Saleh Zafir into his program who literally abuse the president. Even Dr. Shahid mutes some words of Saleh Zafir in his program.
They all must realize that words are extremely powerful and they do make or break. They need to understand that if this regime collapses, then so is the democracy and any hope for the survival of this country and we will be back to square one, even worst than the Musharraf era.

What’s wrong with his approach.
This show is aptly named: “Merery Mutabiq”. A (perhaps biased ) analysis show. It is not news.
Why can’t he have an opinion? I personally think that Zardari is a corrupt man. so does a lot of people in Pakistan. I say it all the time to ppl around me.
Isn’t it democracy ?
To continue…
Plus come on ;
“They need to understand that if this regime collapses, then so is the democracy….”
who’s shouting Fire in Crowded Theater ?
@ahannan
Who brought Zardari into power? Yes, he is corrupt, but he has the right to finish given mandate for five years. If we believe there is something wrong with the government, we should help them fix it instead of trying to bring it down, which will be even more disastrous. We made every effort to bring down Musharraf for about 5 to 6 years thinking that next elected government will solve our problem, and look what happened, who knows what the next government might look like. Fix the current one, and let democracy do its work.
Well Zardari was stealing income of his father’s cinema in his school days so he can’t help it.
@ ahannan……. well said. I agree it is a democracy and everyone can voice their opinions negative or positive
@ moz
Nobody brought Zardari into power. Definitely not the people of Pakistan. The election were rigged and financed heavily him and PPP and PML-Q.
Till 2 yrs ago he was known only as Benazir’s husband, he had no identity of his own.
As far as corruption is concerned, they are all the same; be it Zardari or Nawaz or someone after.
@AsifIqbal
There was nobody in the ellections other than PPP and PML-N. When you are voting for PPP, you are voting for Zardari.
king making role the media of Pakistan is paying. It has become so powerful that it can make and braek Goverments. The media here utilize the same powers in giving as much space as possible to liberal and moderate messages. When positivity is potrayed this will definelty help the nation as a whole and the effect of itwill be soon at a very fast pace.
