Don’t Fool Us More
By Muskan Hina • Jun 25th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • (3,686 views) • 6 CommentsUnder the Constitution, a constitutional amendment can be passed only by a two-thirds majority in both houses of parliament. Both PPP and PML-N don’t have the majority in the senate, and so they cannot adopt the proposed amendment in the constitutional package prepared by Asif Ali Zardari & co.
This package is now being presented to the PML-N and other parties by the law minister Farooq H. Naek, who perhaps also knows the futility of this whole exercise, which is aimed at fooling all. Zardari is not only fooling around with his coalition partners but he is also trying to cajole with the President Musharraf. At one side he is giving carrot to PML-N for cutting down the powers of President and on the other side, through backdoor channels he is trying to assure Musharraf that he would keep his end of bargain and wouldn’t touch him through impeachment or by any other mean.
18th Constitution Amendment Bill being proposed by the PPP wants to touch on many conflicting issues ranging from the right to the declaration of war to the appointment of services chief to the efficacy of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) and the National Finance Commission (NFC). This bill also suggests that in future, caretaker governments at centre and provinces will be appointed in consultation with prime minister, senate chairman and speakers of the National and provincial assemblies.
The proposed package contains recommendations to revoke the president’s power to dismiss the government and transfer his authority to appoint provincial governors and heads of the armed forces services and delegate it to the prime minister. The amendments also included a bar on the president running for office for more than two terms.
The constitutional package has also proposed to amend Article 1 of the Constitution under which the name of the NWFP (North West Frontier Province) will be changed to ‘Pakhtoonkhwa.’ Through another amendment in Article 6 of the Constitution, it has been suggested that superior court judges, who validated military takeovers in future and take oaths under provisional constitution orders (PCOs), would be liable to be tried under high treason.
Zardari cannot do anything in the parliament without the approval of the PML-N, and they both cannot do anything without taking the cooperation of PML-Q, which is in majority in the senate. That means that PML-N and PPP cannot impeach or oust Musharraf through the parliament. They also cannot reinstate the judges through the parliament. So why the fuss about this meaningless constitutional package?

Your posts are always very nice and though provoking. You are 100% right what ever you wrote above but if PPP becomes serious then they can easily impeach President. Many of PMLQ elected MNAs also want to impeach him but they are under covers. They will vote in favour of PPP and PMLN but…. PPP won’t even think to impeach him. Impeach means…closing doors for corrupts for ever. How PPP and few other forces can afford it. They are living solely on Government money. They don’t have industries or software houses. They have only land and which can’t afford their lavish expenses and club houses expenditures.
Mukhan, InshAllah good time will come soon. One thing is killing me since yesterday i.e. FATA area law and order situation. Please pray that we crush these anti Pakistan forces soon. It seems Pakistan is slipping from Government hands and anti Pakistan forces are reaching our main cities. Its very bad situation and painful for those who are living near them like Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshehra, Bannu and Kohat.
Allah! please help us to save our precious country. make these leaders and military persons to act wisely in the given circumstances. Our support is always with sincere people. It is not a time to fight …It is a time to get unite and defend country from Anti Pak forces.

Saleem Khan, it is not law and order stuation, unfortunately, it appears much worse. It is painful, not only for those living nearby, but everyone who cares for Pakistan. When any country is put through so much of uncertainities what we have witnessed in the last over a year inour country. Then enemies re ready to destabilize it; Pakistan is still capable to defend its sovereignity only w Pakistanis must behind our government; it is time we put our diffenreces somewhere on the sidelines; there will be time enough to settle our score later. The country must be secured with all our might. It is time that we helped ourselves; Allah has been very kind and has provided us the resources and skills necessary to stand up and destroy all those once and for ever who threaten us.

Aftab Bhai, How our generation can defend country… where majority is busy stupid and filthy works. See number of comments on each of these posts. Alas! we are not serious about ourself as a nation. Who can guide them on right path? Teachers…. who him/her self busy in texting and dating at working times. Or Imam Masjids…. Who are busy in keeping eyes on fair boys and small cute girls for insane actions inside Masjids. Or Parents… Who are busy in defending every act of Son because Sons becomes Ankhnoon Ka Tara and this Tara later on takes full part on robberies, corruptions, rapes, sex, abusing girls, looting etc etc.
Please tell me, from where to start????? Who has to lead us. If some body raises voice against this system then we puts him behind bars, locks him with family in homes for months and if he tries to come out then we insults him by dragging him on roads by his hairs, tear off his suits etc etc etc. My objective is not to prove here that one is wrong or right but to realize that things are not going positive….rather going worst.

Saleem
when we let a nation to grow under incomptent and corrupt leadership then what you have noticed is quite right .These kind of interests are mostly developed on lower or high class and in last years both classes multipled three or four times.Under military dictator we have seen that some groups belonging to land, stock exchange ,business and in army circles too have multipled their wealth in months and reaction to this lower class is also adopting criminal attitude for their survival resulting is development of negative tendencies in youth culture.Mushaarf and Co had allowed free media acess to its public to keep busy its nation in immature dancing singing and free style art like culture so that no body would see the depth of their incomptence governance .
It is also one of reason people like me support lawyers movement that their efforts have brought some change in the youth of Pakistan as involvement of some of good educational institutes in judiciary issues is showing the change of attiude of our youth. Our media is also contributing a lot for deveopling the pure national spirit in our youth other wise before this our youth were only rely on indian movies for sorting out their ideals in practical lives. The people who were against GEO or AAJ like tv channels that they are diverting the people attention towards - ve side but for people like me I think watching national moves on tv is much better than watching cheap dramas or movies those have no links with reality. Now If you go to streets of Pakistan we see that public knows and gives lot of respect to deposed judges, some tv anchors, leaders of lawyers movement, and media men too so I hope that time would soon come when typical ruling mafia would be retreated for fooling us further on national issues.

Saleem Bhai, I do agree with what you wrote about our over all moral decay and corrupted life styles. After all the teachers, the mullahjees and their activities. Parents and children and their double standards etc. etc. I fully empathise with you and wish to assure you that I am one of your kind who sees and suffers, quietly. Or not so quietly! Only we have different approach, you seem to blame just one person for all these historical and traditional evils, whereas, I try to tell the one who is practicing it. Never mind, if I get brushed off or made target of ridicule. Let me relate a personal experience. I was with an acquatance in his office, we hear some loud arguments outside (a fight of sorts) we decided to go out. There is this decent looking gentleman surrounded by three policemen, two with guns pointing at him and the third manhandling him, who is protesting and wailing and warning that what these policemen were doing was “battery” and an assault on a citizen. Answers were, various combination of ‘profanities’ and choice of ‘filth’ we all are richly endowed with. The man was an educated person with his small business of pick and drop of school children. And the conflict was some payments of ‘gratification’ (not legal). There were at least a hundred people watching, no one protested, not a word. The scene is about 70 meters from a police station. I ask my host that he should come with me to the police station and we will ask for help, he very kindly opposed the idea; I decided to intervene which resulted in another couple of people joining which resulted in us couple of people taken into ‘custody’ and brought to the police station. I being the main “criminal” now had the “privilege” of some special treatment. My accomplices decided to excuse and under what circumstances I don’t know. After I was ‘taken to task’ the man in-charge told me to mind my business in future and refuse to register a FIR or reprimand his men. Interesting - may be. Just one more, I am on I.I.Chundrigar Road (main business center in Karachi) a nice elderly clean gentleman get knocked by a wreckless driver; a trafic contable and a sergent are about 10-15 meters away be even less and they sa it. The driver of the car comes out a “giant of a man”, picks up the victim lifts him to his bosom as we ‘embracing’ an old friend or may be fatherly figure, take two steps to the sidewalk and just dumps the man right there and sped away. There were many many people watching this whole episode but passive. ( I am not suggesting “street justice” here!) I took the details of the vehicle and registration number, ask them police guys who were spectators of this ‘funny’ sad act. Answer / question comes, aap kaon hain khudai faujdaar hain, aap ko koi kaam nahi - I say I am a witness of a crime an accident and leaving the crime scene. Before things could become more “interesting!”. This victim calls me, “beta, if you do want to help, get me a taxi, I think my one leg is fractured” I say yes, but I have the details here and he says - “just forget about it, who is going to get involved in a litigation?” You get my point, when we become so defeatist and loosers and accept all injustices in such manners then it is a bad news and it is an old news. No particular individual has anything to do with where we are right now. We lack civil courage, we have no respect for our fellow citizens, no community, no values. All we complain about is just one person.
That is where I think that this free media has failed us. They have a very important role to play, they have to educate us about our rights and our responsibilities. Keeping quiet or aloof from an injustice or a crime amounts to supporting it if not outright being an accomplice. When the “Bahoo” gets insulted if not outright battered by the in-laws then others in the family must stop this otherwise they are accomplice; when mullah is sexually abusing the kids the other kids must report this (we must educate the kids which acts and behavious indicate sexual assault), do we do it? no it is “immoral” to talk about it. Has a “dictator” forbidden it?
I am sorry, I know you are hurting anyways!
