Did US Killed Baitullah Mehsud By Mistake?
By Ali Yar Khan • Aug 8th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 8 CommentsThe still unconfirmed-beyond-doubt news about Baitullah Mehsud’s death in the US drone attack on his father-in-law’s house in Zangara village in a remote part of South Waziristan has created massive ripples throughout the world. Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hasn’t yet confirmed the death of their Ameer Sahib, which they used to call Baitullah.
For couple of years, it was seriously and strongly being felt by the Pakistanis that United States was actually fanning the unrest in the tribal areas of Pakistan. It was also felt that US had turned a blind eye from the Indian consulates scattered throughout the Durand line who were supplying money and resources and training to TTP. The biggest argument for the Pakistanis was that US drones never managed to kill Baitullah Mehsud and never were his hideouts were targeted.
Now all of a sudden, a US drone fires two missiles in Zangara and Baitullah and his young wife and his companion Qari Hussain is no more. Who tipped US about Baitullah in Zangara? I guess US didn’t know about the Baitullah, rather either Pakistani forces or the Baitini group tipped US about a high value target and placed a mysterious chip at the house where Baitullah came with his wife whom he married last year to have son, as Baitullah had four daughters from his first wife.
Everybody is confirming the death of Baitullah Mehsud, but US and TTP. The death of Baitullah means huge success for the Pakistani security forces and a thorough defeat for the forcs who were actually pulling the strings of Baitullah Mehsud. If the war ends in Waziristan, the residue of Taliban will move towards Afghanistan, as Swat is already cleared of them, and will give more tough time to US. Baitullah Death is not really in the interest of US. So how could they kill him? That’s a million dollar question.
